Hearns by ko, but still think that hearns is overrated but had very good power. But Pavlik is more overated.
Once again, just like in the other thread - Hearns by a vicious KO in the early rounds(or early mids)
Hearns did not have a dodgy chin. He was so top heavy that when he was weight drained or tired, his legs sometimes let him down. The Hearns who beat Colbert in the late 70s was the finest performance against a Middleweight by the Motor City Cobra IMO. That Hearns would have no trouble making 160 (indeed he was a Junior Middle when he beat Colbert); he would look at Pavlik for a few rounds, and dismantle Kelly inside eight. But this is maybe unfair on Pavlik. We are talking prime Tommy and Pavlik may not yet of peaked, thus perhaps this thread needs to be in the Classic Forum in 10/15 years time....
Very well spoken. I agree with this part of your post a ton. I think pavlik could potentially have a career that warrants him being matched against the greatest, but IMHO when he barely sqeeked by Taylor in their first match.....I can't warrant considering him one of the best. Personally I think he got lucky taylor wasn't in good enough shape to put him out of the fight.
Anyone predicting crap like Hearns KO1, or pavlik stops him late, simply has not seen enough of either fighter. Tommy could box Pavlik's ears off from outside, BUT HE WOULD NOT FIGHT THAT WAY!!!!!!! His ego would be on full throttle, and he would be set on proving he could beat Pav at his own game. Who wins? Whoever gets cracked with the other guys right hand the least! I'll take Tommy in 4 or 5 of the most brutal rounds in the history of boxing! Boo
With all due respect, but if Pavlik would have fought 147 pounders, he would have a 100% KO rate in the first round. Are you kidding?? Taylor is a flawed fighter, but the guy is a big, athletic middleweigth who can punch and Pavlik was taking several flush shots, went down and was up by the count of two...and if memory serves me correctly, he recovered from that knockdown quite well, if you actually watch the fight after round two, you might find that out too. If people want to diss Pavlik, they better come up with something else than a kockdown in a fight that he went on to win by a brutal KO. Taylor had never been knocked down before as a career middleweight, what do you think would happen to Hearns if that kind of power hits him??? it would be a great fight, but I think that Hearns without height and reach advantage and with a guy who has a great way of forcing his style with footwork, long jabs and great stamina would be in some serious trouble. If Sugar Ray Leonard could TKO Hearns by stalking him, what could Pavlik do?
Barely sqeeking by Taylor? He won by brutal KO for Pete's sake. He got knocked down once in that fight, then came out in the next round as nothing ever happened. There was nothing lucky about his victory, it was determination, composure and great stamina together with his power. At age 25, Pavlik is 32:0 with a freakish KO percentage. At that age, Hagler had to legit losses to fighters who both had a few losses before facing Hagler. Hearns of course had a greater career altogether than Pavlik at 25, but H2H Pavlik is too big and too effective IMO.
