If Hagler approaches the fight the same way he did in 1985.
    Same results.

I agree. If he try s to box Hagler he stands a lot better chance.

Would he though is the question ? Hagler was slipping in 87 and came out slow against Leonard.

Could Hearns survive and win 12 round decision against a Hagler who was slipping ?

No, People forget he broke his hand .. Hearns rt power vs Haglers chin ? Hagler wins that every time, Marvin can walk thru when he wants
Same result Tommy gets stopped again at some point

But that also means Hearns was slipping. His legs were much worse in 87" than 85"
Leonard's legs were relatively fresh in 87" when he fought Hagler.
Hagler was able to catch up with Leonard in the later rds in their fight,
he wasn't able to put him away.
Hearns wouldn't have survived the onslaught Leonard took in 87.

I wouldnt get caught up in the comparison of Hagler SRL to Hearns Hagler to draw any sort of comparisons with anything imo as Ray is so much more durable than Tommy and by a country mile...
Hagler was 100 % focused and seek and destroy against Tommy.. Completely polar opposite against SRL , Ray was in his head. Hell Hagler didnt even know how to approach Ray.. He was completely out of his game. Comes out righty because he thinks he can what ? easily outbox ray ? It didnt work the first round , so why come out and do it for the 2nd ? Hagler was off his game and was mimicking Rays antics. if he approached the SRL fight the same as the Hearns fight .. maybe he gets a different result .. And Kudos to Ray for out boxing Marvin doing everything right and deserving that coin flip decision
And Hearns broke his hand against the rough and tough Hagler ,, He would break/injure it again no matter what year they fight, as that was often the case throughout Tommys career

Can't see Hearns being any more succesful a second time. Yes,Marvin had slowed up a tad by 1987 but he was still dangerous and he would n't have to go looking for Tommy.

Not being a wise guy I just don't recall Leonard surving any kind of onslaught from Hagler. Hagler didn't do much that fight.

Round 9 Leonard had to dig deep after it looked like Hagler was getting on top.

I gotta watch it again. I never recalled Leonard being in any real trouble

The interesting thing is that Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns are both really good boxers …I could see a rematch being an entirely different fight …

    Right on.
Hagler truly dropped the ball versus Leonard, who fought a smart fight and ran away with the win.

I tend to agree with you. You would expect Hagler to come on at some point which he did. He was the bigger stronger more active fighter and at his weight. One would expect an inactive SRL was going to succumb to that pressure which he did as Hagler was winning the second half of the fight, imo. Was Ray in big trouble ? not yet imo because of his heart. And we wasn't on the canvas yet. and 1 judge I believe , and not Guerrera, gave Ray the 12th. but if it was for 15 rds, that's a different conversation.
For comparison, I would say Hearns was more in trouble against Ray in their second fight than Ray was against Hagler..
But maybe I too need to watch it again
