Thomas Hearns .Vs. Oscar De La Hoya

Maybe I gave oscar too much credit 12 rounds to 3 sounds more appropriate. but oscars elegent boxing skills and fast combination punching will pull out a couple for him. but oscar could bang at 147lb, and I could see him possibly catching hearns with a left hook early like leonard did briefly stunning or flooring him...but when hearns gets back up he will tear oscar apart with the jab. I dont see oscars phenominal jab doing much to hearns, oscar will really have to drag this one to the late waters and hope to wear tommy down......but the thing is outside of quartey...oscar at 147 didnt do well in the late rounds....so he doesnt have much of a chance. I

 

It's amazing how much flak Oscar gets these days..some of it deserved I suppose. But the man has treated us to alot of big fights and helped keep boxing on the sporting map with events that are able to attract the general public. Aside from some questionable decisions (such as fighting Pacman), I actually do beleive he has the best interests of the sport at heart.

But I don't mean to derail the thread, so...

I beleive Tommy's rangy, powerful jab will find the mark and bust up Oscars face eventually forcing a stoppage. Entertaining bout though, I could see both guys getting wobbled a few times.

 

I didn't mean to berate Oscar at all. I didn't mean any disrespect. I appreciate him as a fighter and for all he has done and is doing for boxing.

But he is a natural super featherweight going up against Hearns at welterweight. Hearns' natural weight. His power was absolutely scary at this weight. Plus Thomas was like no one else that Oscar has fought.This would be a bad, bad match-up for Oscar, I am afraid.

DLH a natural 130 lb fighter?


He fought there twice. He was huge there, and at 135 as well. He was big at 140.

Well he started at 130, didn't he? And he was 21 then. Holmes started at welterweight. I believe he was in his teens then.

Moreover, DLH was and is soft at 160. Hearns was pretty muscular at 175 and even in the Cruisers.

DLH fought at 130 twice, and was huge at 130 and 135.

He also did it under different weigh-in rules than Hearns did in the early 80s.

I really can't see DLH making 130 or 135 under the old weigh-in rules.

He wasn't "natural" there, just like Pacquiao fighting at 106 or 109 or whatever.
