You know what? I'm changing my ming to Hearns now.... if he can give Ray leonard a contraversial draw.... he can beat an untested Jones aswell I think.:bart

Even tho Leonard stopped Tommy in their prime v prime fight & Roy is a fair bit bigger than Ray with a bit more speed & power ? :think

I also got Roy by late TKO in this fight, to have any shot at beating a young Roy Jones you would have to have the ability to push him up against the ropes to nullify his handspeed to a small degree and I can't see Hearns doing that to him. Bernard Hopkins was successful doing that but Hopkins only won two rounds against Roy in my book so that's a mute point I made in trying to beat a Jones when he was young.

Tommy Hearns would hurt him like Tarver did

This would have you on the edge of yer seats for the first 3 rounds just waiting for Tommy to drop the bomb onto Roy's chin, Roy would have too keep himself safe in the early part of this fight or he'd be blown out, once it hit's the half way point Tommie's stamina & chin would be put too the test big time & i'd go for Roy TKO from the 6th onwards but of course it's all depending he don't end up like James Shular:scaredas:

Jones is too fast for Hearns @ 160. Jones within 5 rounds.

Hearns can win this if he decides to box rather than bang...and wait for his oppurtunities rather than force them!! Wasn't really Hearns style though was it!?!?! I give Hearns a better shot against Roy than Hopkins.

I'll go for Roy..but not by KO. 7-5.

Lots of people seem to be going for Roy by KO but I don't think Roy can afford to be overly aggressive against Hearns.

Hearns 2 big KO losses were against people that weren't afraid to trade with him as they knew they had a chin, and Barkley (though emerging victorious) was being dismantled before the stoppage!!!

If Jones goes for the big KO he leaves himself open to a huge Hearns shot...and that's not wise!!! Jones has to be in and out in this fight and try to box clever. Not easy outboxing Hearns though.

The more I think about it, the more I lean towards Hearns.

Me too, I think the outside boxing skills of Hearns would be hell for anyone, 168 downwards in history for as long as the fight lasted, even a young Jones, its just that extra bulk & power of Jones that makes me favour him vs Tommy.

Jones puts an ass whuppin on Hopkins at any stage of their careers pre Jones-Tarver I... thats why Hopkins talked himself out of the rematch while at his absolute peak (shortly after beating Tito) because he knew the speed, movement & power of Roy would see him to a clear UD again... this time Jones would beat him with 2 good hands, not 1.

    :good

Jones KO4, far stronger at the weight, far faster, far better defense, better power at the weight, better chin at the weight. Hearns best weapon is his jab but I don't see it landing and I see Jones countering over it with rights.

    Far stronger..I'm not sure
Better power..I disagree. Hearns is the ONLY person I've ever seen hurt Hagler so I don't know how you come to determine Jones is more powerful at 160!?!?
Better chin...Jones was barely hit so I can't see any justification for that comment. Hearns chin is made out to be worse than it actually is. There seems to be a belief that all you have to do is hit Tommy flush once and he's down. That really wasn't true!!!

The only way I see Roy winning this fight is if Hearns tries to blow him out and allows Roy to pot shot all night. If Jones goes for a KO, he gets KO'd IMO, and I think Heanrs can outbox him if he plays it smart.

Jones was quite a physical beast from 160-168, if you look at how his counterparts such as Benn, Julian Jackson, Eubank and Toney dealt with similar opposition you will find fighters Jones stopped many common opponents in 1-2rounds that went the distance with those other punchers. Jones has a far stronger built than the gangley Hearns who's leg strength wasn't too impressive. I'm pretty sure Jones has better 1punch power than both Hagler and

When it comes to chins Jones was never hurt until he was 35yo, and that includes taking punches from a 230lber who floored Holyfield. When he was ko'd it was 2 weight classes up against top 175lbers past his best.

Regardless Jones has the speed and defense to hit and not be hit, I don't see how Hearns wins this, he has few advantages outside of better reach and a fast 1-2. But Jones athleticism could close the gap remarkably fast

Hearns just wasnt a great MW, Jones is possibly the greatest MW ever

Leonard stopped Hearns due to completely different reasons other than speed & power. I personally can't see Jones taking it for 14 rounds, only to come back and stop a tired Hearns.

Hopkins landed his right hand on Jones with some regularity:

    Hearns' right was a killer:

    It's something to think about.
