2 part topic: At WelterWeight AND Light Middle Welterweight: I think Mosley would get the win. I dare say Mosley hit harder than Leonard, and was a bit faster. Since Mosley has a solid chin, I think he would eventually get a crack or two at Tommy's and KO him. KO SSM Light Middle: Entirely different story. Hearns developed a mean body attack in his middleweight days, plus learned how to hold when he's hurt from his bout with Leonard. Shane has never really been rocked, so I don't know if he'd get Ko'd, but Hearns by UD
I would lean strongly toward Hearns in both matches. He's all kinds of wrong for Shane except for a not completely reliable chin. If he had trouble with Vernon...yikes.
Hearns by KO in both weights. Forrest almost had Shane out of there in their first fight, you best believe Hearns would get the job done.
Mosley was not stronger, faster or more powerful than Leonard, and he doesn't have as proven a chin. And he's not half the boxer Ray was. For Hearns/Mosley, consider Forrest/Mosley I, except this time Tommy puts it to bed in the second round.
Mosley is one hell of a tank when he wants to be to get big single shots off, but he's not walking through Hearns. Just too open to Hearns' jab and right hand.
Mosley was also head-butted in that first fight before the big right landed. People seem to forget that. How much did that affect him? Don't know myself but he would say later it caused his equilibrium to be knocked off which he said was also according to his Doctor. Despite all that, Forrest, who actually was a big hitter with his right, couldn't take Mosley out. Didn't see any chance of Mosley being taken out in the second fight or any other fight except his last fight but that was because he was fatigued. And how isn't Mosley's "chin" proven? And Mosley is a strong fighter. I'm not sure what the comparison would be compared to SRL though. At least in the gym, Mosley is certainly stronger :-D I favor Tommy though. Very Good Boxer, incredible jab, big right-hand, height and reach advantage...but he didn't exactly have the greatest chin either and he did get worn down by SRL because at 147, he wasn't exactly at his healthiest. That said, again, Tommy takes this.
Mosley is certainly stronger than Leonard, and has a great chin, not as fast as Leonard and not as good a boxer It should go like Forrest-Mosley 1 maybe even a KO win for Tommy, but Mosley has an outside chance of backing Hearns up and connecting with some big punches to take Hearns out at some stage, at mid/close range its Mosleys fight
But he was getting timed for the right hand regularly. I never said it wasn't proven. I said it wasn't as proven as SRL's chin, which is an obvious fact. Leonard has shaken off punches from Hearns, Hagler and even big hitting Light Heavyweights like Lalonde. Mosley was nearly knocked out by Forrest. Mosley has an excellent chin, but Leonard's was on another level. Right. Mosley doesn't have the legs or the timing to pull off anything like what Ray Leonard did..
I know he wasn't half the boxer as Leonard, but I think he had a slight adavntage in single punch speed(not combination), and without a doubt slight advantage in power if only b/c he likely weighed more because of the additional re-hydration day after the weigh in. In general he's far bulkier than Leonard. And come on, Mosley has a solid chin.
Mosley has never been a massive puncher above 135. Certainly I've never seen him wipe someone out the way Leonard did Green, or stop somebody as crafty and durable as Armando Muniz for instance. Leonard had enough power to go up to Light Heavyweight and savagely knock out world champions. Does Mosley have that? Did I ever say he didn't? He doesn't have Leonard's chin.
I agree. Mosley has a small puncher's chance at 147, and he'd be kept on the endo of the 154 pound Hearns' jab, who was a more matured and composed version.
