Hearns was an amzing offensive machine. He also could outbox anyone, he did it to Leonard, Benitez and Hill, three of the best boxers of the modern era.

His chin was OK, it was his legs that could let him down, he was so top heavy.

 

He was the ultimate offensive machine. He also had all the physical advantages. Hearns in his prime could not be outboxed. Leonard, the Olympic Gold Medalist and arguably one of the best WW ever could not outbox hearns, he outpunched him.

 

as a fan of his, i rate hearns very highly. one of the best, if not the best, offensive fighters i have seen. aside from the right hand, he possesed one of the best jabs a fighter has had. he could keep it low, but still throw it fast enough that the other guy could'nt react to it. just a stinging weapon that could rack up points, or set up the straight. he also had a left hook, that imo ranks among the best left hooks ever. watch hearns bust up barkley bad with that left hook throughout their first fight, head and body. he really sat down well on his punches being 6'1. he also had a lot of torque in his hips for that hook. extremely fast hands, coupled with concussive power made him an awesome offensive fighter. the thing i love about his style as well was that he always let his hands fly. hearns did'nt just rely on his natural gifts, he was also an extremely well schooled boxer. he was the master at fighting from range, and was extremely difficult (if not impossible) to outbox. couple his natural gifts with his boxingskills, and you get the best "KO punch delivery systems" there ever was.

 

If Hearns had a better chin, he would have been the best WW ever. Even with a not so great chin, he would be hard to beat.

 

hearns was awesome, his only flaw was his chin.

 

Great jab--he out-jabbed both Leonard and Benitez. I thought he clearly won the second fight with SRL. In their '81 shoot-out he was way ahead and didn't look hurt that when they stopped it. Nearly stopped Hagler on the cut.
Wicked left hook to body, but shouldn't have traded on inside. It was almost like he wanted to prove he could do something more than jab and right cross. The way he threw all his weight into those right crosses was the same reason he got tagged with counter punches, IMO. Was off balance when he missed a shot.

 

Great left jab and dynamite in his right hand. I still feel sick when i see his ko of Duran. Hearns is one of my fighters of all time!
