Thomas Oosthuizen is just 22 years old. He's been improving steadily and looked very good in his TKO win over Francisco Sierra yesterday. I see BoxRec now has him at #6 super middleweight.

Will he eventually be able to compete with the top people in his division such as Bute, Froch and Ward?

Oosthuizen needs at least 3 more years to be competitive with those guys and by then they will be LHW.

Thomas Oosthuizen is now scheduled to fight on the Feb 2 Berto-Ortiz II card in Las Vegas.

That's good to hear considering the preliminary fights will be airing live on Showtime Extreme. Hopefully, he's matched with someone somewhat credible.

I like Oosthuizen and notice that he is willing to take good fights without seeming fazed, but im not yet convinced he will go all the way

It's hard for me to tell. If he improved his defense significantly, he has the tools to be a top fighter. If not, he'll probably be a Mario Veit clone.

He got hit a LOT against Aaron Pryor Jr. Something that had me shaking me head.

He's got obvious talent but I'm really unsure why he chooses to fight like a Supermiddleweight-Nas. Seems he'd have more advantages if he picked up the jab and some more conventional movement.

I like the kid though, another good talent in the (IMO) most talented division in boxing right now. He'll make fun fights when he gets to the top for sure.

Sure you said that for my benefit, but if Oosthuizen gets that far he will have done well

42 2004 May 8 Mario Veit SD 12 Kabary Salem Interim Dortmund, Nordrhein-Westfalen, GER 43 2004 Oct 22 Joe Calzaghe UD 12 Kabary Salem 15 Edinburgh, Scotland, UK 44 2004 Nov 6 Mario Veit TKO 9 Charles Brewer Interim Riesa, Sachsen, GER 45 2005 May 7 Joe Calzaghe TKO 6 Mario Veit 16 Braunschweig, Niedersachsen, GER

If you look at WBO SMW world title fights, you can see Veit was a Interim champ winning and defending a title

There was a rumour that team Kessler hoped to get Oosterhuizen as comeback opponent.

Who would have won that fight.

I saw significant improvements between the Pryor jr. and the Sierra fight. He really did make Sierra look like a bum at best. I have great hopes for Oosthuizen. IMO he has the fastest handspeed in the division. Watch this space.
