...for a number of reasons. A) His credentials do not compare. Peter may be fat and only marginally talented, but he is a former titlist with wins over James Toney and Oleg Maskaev. Briggs, though faded and asthamtic, is also a former titlist with wins over Liackovich, Mercer, and sort of George Forman. Harrison has accomplished absolutely nothing in his career. He "earned" this shot by beating a series of Liverpool cab drivers and one-eyed soccor holligans in the prizefighter series, and avenging a defeat against well-liked but oft beaten trialhorse Michael Sprott. His best career win was in another split series against fat and faded Danny Williams, who I always liked, but who has always run hot and cold. B) The Klits tried to line up better guys- Haye is racing to the bottom as fast as he can. Its not Wladdy's fault that Povetkin pulled out at the last minute. Its not Vitaly's fault that Valuev and Solis turned him down. Haye just had a soft touch defense against Johnny Ruiz, who had not outright won a meaningful fight in...well...has not ever outright won a meaninful fight. He should at least be figthing Chagaev, his mandatory. C) The Klits wanted to fight Haye. Haye is openly ducking the Klits. After running off his mouth, he is refusing to fight. He has pulled out of fights with both of them. I initially gave him the benenfit of the doubt about his "injury" against Wlad, but a year later and he is no closer to fighting either brother. He is scarred, pure and simple. There are no "slave contracts" involved. Its all just another excuse. The funniest part is, Whereas you can take it to the bank that the brothers will win their fights, Haye might very well get knocked out. Having stated all of this, I will now change my moniker to Captain Obvious.
Agreed. Fact is, Wlad is the only current title holder who is actually worthy of being called champ. Vitali might be trying to line up better fights, but Briggs after Sosonowski is pretty pathetic. And Haye...well, that's just disgraceful.
