Okay so once, 5 years ago, in front of a few hundred people in Dublin he choked someone out, and that was after he had floored the kid he was up against. I don't think he is flooring a 29 year old prime boxer.
Because he was against a guy who had been religiously training in wrestling and jiu-jitsu for years. Take that all away. Many pure boxers have no idea how easy it is to get choked out. Every time conor got behind Floyd in the clinch tonight (which was like twice a round) the choke is there if he jumps on his back and gets the hooks in. He certainly wouldn't floor Toney and he certainly wouldn't need to.
Conor is all fast twitch muscle. More explosive, but burns out quickly. More a natural sprinter than marathon runner.
I would actually like to see a top boxer in their prime have a bit of training then go fight a few MMA guys, maybe fight a 40 year old fading star. So far we've only seen boxers who are way past their prime, fat, slow and overweight do the crossover. Of course, you'll say the boxer will lose within a minute, but I'd just like to see it. Sadly, I don't think we ever will see it until MMA overtakes boxing, then maybe it becomes a possibility.
Exactly. Boxing fans makes make it sound like all Toney need to do is land 1 punch. Conor took plenty tonight and he was still standing. Outside of a lucky punch, there is no way Toney can win in a MMA fight. People forget that Conor is trained in kickboxing and boxers have no idea how to defend against kicks. Not leg kicks, not head kicks, or kicks to the ribs. I just can't see Toney beating Conor in a MMA fight. GGG has a slightly better chance because he has true 1 punch power, but he's a noob compared to the amount of ground experience Conor has over these guys.
I would love to see it too. I hope it starts a two way relationship like MMA had with kickboxing. It would be awesome.
He beat a young, prime top level striker who was two weight classes bigger. He walked him down and stopped him. i'm not sure what more you want other than to watch Floyd get wrecked because he got old?
Its strange that people are taking this circus act so seriously... Re the MMa v boxing if anything MMA is in all sorts of trouble if Connor decides to ride of into the sunset they don;t have a big star now and they need one badly for it to survive... Boxing will always around and the top guys make far more money...
At that was your view before the fight was it? The fight turned out a hell of a lot harder than everyone expected. Most boxing analysts predicting he'd get no where near him. Max Kellerman saying he wouldn't land a single punch. Why can't people just admit Conor is a way better boxer than everyone thought? This whole boxing v mma thing is just so immature ffs
It was and I can prove it. http://imgur.com/gallery/Of4a5 I wrote this 10 days ago and posted it all over the web on every boxing forum I know of. I called Conor taking the early rounds before tiring. Conor starts fast, Floyd takes his time. I'm trained in MMA and also called Conor doing well with the clinches.
Ok fair enough. But after the way some paid analysts were going on about it giving any credit to Floyd now is just stupid.
You don't see A list Hollywood celebrities turning up in the dozens to go watch MMA fights. That is because it no one with any ounce of class or prestige, is interested in watching unsolicited barbarism where brute strength rules over skill and intelligence. Boxing is called the noble art for a reason, because it is a science. MMA is your local hard man off a council estate throwing his weight around using mindless brute force and bully boy tactics to overcome their opponent. You get someone on the floor and start pounding them with fists and elbows, is hardly a refined skill.
Give me some time. I'll get paid eventually. Those paid analysts were all bogged down in pre-concieved notions. Either they were boxing guys supporting Floyd blindly or MMA guys thinking conor was invincible despite ignoring the 2 Diaz fights. Rationality is a beautiful thing.
