have to worry in one way after seeing riccardo torres fight cotto.

but i'm a firm believer that cotto's matured a lot through his wins against mosley and judah. he's an increasingly intelligent fighter (which he wasn't against torres), and he'øs also a big enough guy - like cintron wasn't - to hold his own.

i think cotto wins through his speed and technical skill.

Not gonna happen. Margo always has a punchers chance (and in his case thats a big chance), but all unforseen occurances aside, Cotto by UD.

Margo has a chance, but I firmly believe Cotto wins this one by late round tko..

Cotto wins on skill and, body punching. This is boxing though and all it takes is one punch....

I'm not so sure Margarito will win but I guess I give him a better chance than all the previous posters.

IMO, Margo's relentless pressure, stamina and power will be enough to Keep Cotto honest and force him to fight the second half pretty much like he did against Mosley. Close fight, still think it could go either way.

Cotto has yet to prove he can take the punching pressure of a Margarito.
Not Mosley, Not Judah but Anotonio Margarito.

Margarito is a Brawler, who is a constant thrower and very awkward to fight.
he is not the conventional orthodox fighter. his punches come from all angles and always have the same amount of steam from round 1-12.
Cotto will have to use his boxing and stay away from Margo to win this. If he trades he will lose. IMO

I look for Cotto to box, box & box again.
If Margo wins it will be by stoppage.
If Cotto wins mark down the full 12 rounds.

Bigger, stronger, throws more punches, hits about as hard, great chin, amazing amount of pressure.....

    All that said Cotto MD.

i agree with a lot what you say but cotto is methodical and a bigger puncher to the body than people give him credit for.

What many people say is Margarito's strenght could also be his biggest problem. Throwing a lot of punches also leave him open to get hit many times. Cintron hits very hard if you stand in front of him and show him your chin. But Cotto hits as hard or harder than Cintron and his attack is more accurate and with many more tools. We have seen Cotto hurt by other fighters. But his skills have improved a lot and he looks stronger at 147# than he ever did at 140#. Is also true Margarito is a great finisher and if Cotto makes a mistake Tony will make him pay. The two big questions are: #1. Can Margarito deal with Cotto skills??? #2 Who can take the other fighter punches????? I can't wait to see this fight.

Margarito is the biggest guy Cotto has stepped into the ring with so far. At 5'11 and usually 160lbs by fight time, he's a pretty damn big welterweight. And it's fair to say he'd be a jr.middle.

His height, contrary to ESB hatorade, is actually used quite well to land long range overhand rights and lead uppercuts. When opponents back up they suffer for it (see Johnson, Lewis, Santos and others).

Margarito has very underrated punching power. He doesn't commit like Cotto does to every punch, but there is a method to Tony's madness. He likes to see what will get in first and when he sees that he can touch a guy in the same place over and over again, he will start to apply harder punches. See the left hook to the body on Cintron and how often Margarito found that shot in both fights. It takes him a while to find those soft defensive spots but once he does it's full power.

Margarito has been boxing as a pro for nearly 14 years. And he has sparred with the best in the sport. Sure his style is wild. But you don't get to the top by being inept as the dumb dumbs on this forum suggest. The reason why he does what he does is because it has brought him to two world titles and almost three. And it has essentially been what brought him where he is. Plenty of capable boxers have tried to box and move on Margarito and have failed. So to suggest it's so easy to hit him and move is just forum nonsense. Speculation at it's WORST.

I encourage you to watch these recent sparring sessions with Mora and Rubio. Watch how Margarito tucks his elbows to protect his body and look how he sneaks the uppercut in both at long range and in close. These will be effective strategies for dealing with Cotto who is shorter. Being shorter he will have to commit moreso on a forward offense to accomplish anything here.

    Two more points.

A: Miguel Cotto establishes his power by moving forward. That's where he does damage. When he's forced on the backfoot his power is very ordinary and he doesn't seem to do as well. His footwork going backwards is also of recent development and hasn't always been the best. He can be trapped on the ropes and hurt as illustrated in the Abdulaev fight.

B: Margarito's fight with Lujan proved one thing. That Margarito can beat a smaller man who comes right at him. While it took Margarito some time to warm to the task, he eventually started finding Lujan with uppercuts and hooks.

In conclusion it's possible that Cotto wins this. Nobody is saying he can't win. But this is going to be bar none the toughest fight of his career. And I think he knows this. Margarito is not a guy who you hit and have him going away immediately. He trades, he likes to trade and he will force the exchanges one way or another. Cotto has been hurt before and Margarito has the firepower to hurt him again. Margarito is also an excellent finisher.

In the Gomez fight they were showing some tools they will use against Margarito. They will try and land one shot at a time and move. One shot at a time and move. They will try to limit his output as much as possible and I for one don't believe Cotto plans on hurting Margarito. To do so he'd have to sit down at some point and that's asking for trouble.

What seems likely is that Cotto will box and move. But in my mind I see this gameplan having some issues as Margarito is not Gomez. Margarito will press much harder and as the fight goes on his pressure will wear hard. A Margarito who isn't hurt or damaged will have tremendous steam going into the second half of the fight. And how much Cotto can maintain at that point will be the question. Moving backwards all night is taxing on your legs and to me I don't believe Cotto's legs will make it through 12. I see a late stoppage here for Margarito as Cotto gets tired down the stretch. Look for the long uppercut to be the finisher.

I Dont think so.... Cotto is just improving so much. And I'm so proud he stepped up to the plate, and he is fighting everyone like Judah,Mosley, now Margo.

We need more Cotto's in boxing!
