Those who picked Cotto - did the fight go as you expected?

It's weird, because in my eyes, the fight went exactly as I was expecting in the first four rounds except one vital difference maker - Pacquaio was simply not bothered by what Cotto landed and Cotto was extremely hurt by what Pacquaio landed.

My prediction was that Cotto would find the mark with his right hand, and that his handspeed and movement is under-rated meaning he would be able to catch Pacquaio more than once and break him down early.

Cotto did find the mark with his right hand, he showed that when he was boxing well, he was as fast at landing as Pacquaio and his movement had Pacquaio falling onto shots in those earlier rounds.

I'm not often wrong with predictions (check my history here) and in this case, it's pretty damn weird, because I don't feel like I was wrong with my prediction about the boxing itself - more so about the physical attributes of each fighter in terms of durability and punch resistance.

Minus the flash knockdown in round 3, and you would have had to give the round to Cotto. Likewise, he was winning round 4 with 20 seconds on the clock then he gets caught with a left uppercut. In my estimation, the left hand that landed in round 4 really took a lot out of Cotto and his resistance was finished by about round 6. The fight went exactly how I thought it would...only I thought Cotto would take Manny's punches better, whereas Manny wouldn't take the left hands too well. Because of that, it was Cotto getting broken down...not Pacquiao.

No, I always viewed Pac as skillful.
I just believed he was open to Cotto's punches.
    And he was.

The problem was, those punches didn't damage Pac.
It was all underestimating his physical abilities.

I know I did...I thought Cotto made the mistake of trying brawl too much. When he boxed he did a little better. Pac's rating definitaly has to go up a few notches...

Some us were saying all along that was all it would come down to. Literal unknowns before the fight took place. It was bold of anyone to make any presumptions. Cotto showed a significant amount of mental weakness to add to that.. An intangible that showed up, glaringly, in the results. As well.

I just thought Manny could not take Cotto's power, but he kept comming after taking Cotto's best shots. That's when I knew he was in trouble.

It did. Cotto landed early and often, as expected. By the sixth round it was evident that Manny's chin is just beyond what I'd imagined possible. This became evident to him as well, which is why he had no problem accelerating the pace and kicking Cotto's ass from rounds 6-8 before Cotto went into retreat mode starting in the 9th.

I agree with both of you guys. And if Cotto had stayed disciplined and boxed, and kept Pac on the outside, and punished the body when he came in, he would've had a much better chance. He got drawn into some of those crazy exchanges that Pac is so good at and got caught with the game changer in rd 4. I guess the question is answered.....Pac's power continues to grow as his body mass does. Welcome to welter weight champ.

Floyd Snr will probably say he took chin steroids, wrapped his hands in resin and broken glass and wore an iron protector.

I thought Cotto would win by controlling the pace with his jab, and by controlling distance the way Marquez was able to in both fights with Manny. I figured his stamina would begin to fail him late, and that Manny would gain steam leading to extremely close scorecards, with Cotto barely edging out a decision.

I did not expect that Manny's punching power would affect Cotto as drastically as it did, as early as it did. I did not expect Manny to be THAT damned fast. And I sure didn't expect Manny to successfully implement that fine tuned of a fight strategy.

You just have to nod your head and say wow.

What exactly are you refering to when suggesting that Cotto showed a significant amount of mental weakness?

Manny's handspeed in this fight was inhuman. Never seen a faster set of combinations in my life from a variable of angles...

Cotto's defense isn't even that bad, Pac's offense is too much for anyone to handle.
