He was emotionally and physically (mostly emotionally) broken, beaten, which caused him to give up. Bone, did you see his response when he got knocked down in the 5th? When the ref asked him if he wanted to continue... he turned his back on the ref and said something and waved his head like no. It looked clearly like he gave up - yes he was beaten up physically but he, at that point, probably thought its not worth it, I'll fight another night. After round 4, his corner was prompting him "are you ok!??" "say something, Victor -- you want me to stop the fight!??". His response:none, he was numb, in shock, and not responding. He broke down in the middle of it all, like how Cintron broke down in the first fight against Margarito. It was an emotional breakdown. He was too young, trying to (or forced to) grow up too fast, after being fed baby food in his previous fights, he was given a top round steak - too much for him to chew on.
I liked the interview because he was flat out honest instead of b.s.ing and lying to all of us the way most fighters do. Bottom line is he fought a really fun entertaining fight. He took and gave bombs. I'd rather see that than a guy who essentially mentally quits before the fight begins or during the fight and just runs and grabs and blocks and stinks it out. There are different levels of quitting. I think there is more honor in going out there, trading bombs, getting badly dazed, then quitting, than a guy who runs, grabs, barely throws for fear of getting hit, goes the distance and loses a decision or even wins one under the scoring style of today that rewards the cowardly style.
You complete dildo. He fought like a warrior for 6 rds and gave you value for money. He knew he was done and was going to get KOed. Why risk ****ing himself up just for your pleasure. He did the right thing and he will fight again another day. With all his marbles intact. Have you ever heard of gerald McClellan.?
People who call Cotto a quitter for that are pretty dumb, he literally had no energy left whatsoever. Could barely walk never mind fight.
Serves you guys right for hyping him out of his boots. ortiz is good and he will remain good even after this defeat buh some guys hyped him to be better than he actually is. no dont compare him to hatton, or cotto or vargas!!!
So why the name calling? Getting a bit of steam down your shirt whenever you debate you ****ing tool. Anyway, back to this quitting ****, Next time Ortiz fights and quits when the tough get going we should just appluad him and get ready for his next performance. You are such a douche. This is boxing. Its brutal. You either belong in it or you dont. Izzy, Rafa, Chico, Ali, Benn, Ward, Gatti never quit even when taking beatings. Didnt Benn beat McClellan after he was alomst put out in there fight? I feel bad for Gman, but he knew the sport and what can happen in it.
Ortiz did quit as in the literal definition of the word. And I wonder why he decided to turn into a fighter when he seems very worried about receiving permanent damage. It's perfectly understandable, but then he shouldn't go into a sport like boxing. Although it's probably something he said there on impulse. However I wouldn't ever look down on him for that, and the people that do are ridiculous keyboard warriors.
Yes he definity quit. And I was the only ***** in my house that hadn't fallen for the overhyping HBO was doing of him. As soon as shyt got tuff he quit. HBO was now wrong about Angulo and Ortiz. Also Kirkland 's dumb thug ass is out too for his stupitity...
The old school Mexican Warrior's/Fan's probably threw up their Tecate's after hearing this kid Saturday night.
This is exactly what i predicted. I saw khan vs ortiz in ameture live buh I also sed to one poster to stop hyping ortiz becuz he hasnt been tested. what happens when someone roughs him up. will he be able to cope? turns out ......no. and yet guys took the **** out of Khan who fought to get back on his feet every second until he was truly knocked out
Maidana took Ortiz into a deep dark place last night and he ended up crying for his mother. Ortiz was happy enough when he being fed easy opponents ,but last night he showed he hasn't got the desire and stomach to step up when things get tough.
We'll see Khans heart when he gets into a war with a banger, I'd rather be able to say "I quit" after taking a beating, than lay prone on the canvas unable to move in one round.
With all due respect BBONE, aren't you the same guy that's always bashing Cotto??? I'm almost sure I've heard u talking s**t about Cotto & most probably called him a quitter like tons of others before.... MAYBE I'M WRONG, AND my apologies IFF I AM, but otherwise you must be the biggest hypocrite in this whole site.... and, believe me, that would be quite an accomplishment, since competition for that title is pretty tough in here! :smooch
