The kids got heart if he didnt he wouldnt have got from the first KD and continued trading shots with Maidana. But it seems he has lost the passion for the sport and realized that fights were only going to get tougher and he stepped it up in competition.

He seemed a bit in shock TBH. I mean he came out to touch gloves in the 6th and got a monstrous right hand for it.

I dont know why you'd prefer to quit. most fighters say "let me go out on my shield", most fighters rather leave the ring on a stretcher than walk out with a pretty face after quitting. As for khan, he has the heart to pull thru, its not like he ever backed off wen he got hurt, and hes been hurt quite a few tyms already.

Come on, when Gomez hit him with that body shot a blind man could see he was hurt badly. You have to hide that **** from your opponent.

there is no shame in gatting caught with a good shot. admitting that you quit because you " arent supposed to get beat up" is disgraceful.

boxing is not an easy sport. and there will be times when everything does not go your way. that is what separates the true fighters from the hype jobs. you have to be willing to fight through adversity. which clearly by his own admission ortiz is not willing to do. noone wants to see a fighter seriously hurt in the ring. but fighters know the risk when they decide on their careers.

ortiz was content to collect a paycheck as long as everything went his way. the minute he was put in a position to actually work hard, he quit.

as far as him being rushed, that is a copout by apologists. he had the same number of fights as madaina, and a full amateur career. he actually was the more experienced fighter in the ring last night. only difference was he had been given everything so far in his career, and felt entitled. where as madaina actually had to earn what he has.

if a fighter does not want to take the risk of possibly going out on his back, he needs to get a desk job.

Look Khan is talking a bit to much so when he get KOed so it's normal that some people are happy about it. Ortiz was a humble kid. He lost a match so I don't understand why some of the Khan fans find some kind of redemption of their fighter in this. As for this fight I said in the forum that Ortiz is going to be at least down and he is going to get hurt. It was a horrible match up by GB for me.Worst than Angulo's.

Yeah but he would still beat Khan, which says a lot about Khan. Listen, it's easy to try and get up when you don't know what planet you're on, it's also easy to see in every Khan fight that he hates getting hit and can't handle pressure, I've never been too impressed with Khans fighting instincts either. I'll be honest though I don't even care about Ortiz that much, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt until he says the same thing again.

As you say, boxing is not an easy sport, and his laughing seemed like a guy in denial more than a guy who was happy about the fact he got beaten up and embarrassed in front of millions.

The conclusion had shades of Judah vs Clottey in it. Judah is cut and his will is broken and pretends to be hurt worse than he is so the "doctor calls the fight" when Judah really has no interest in continuing.

You can compare it to anything you want. The kid looked fine to me. Just sayin.

    Was Cottos cut worse?

LOL I know I'm not comparing a guy with a blood clot to Ortiz, just a comment on how people don't really know what happened until it's over. Quitting is one thing, but he seemed almost delusional after the fight, I want to see him in the ring in a proper fight again, now thta he knows what it feels like and he has a chance to get his head around his first proper loss, to really judge his heart.

Cotto knows what it's like to be hit hard, Ortiz didn't. If he comes out today and says "I don't want to box any more, I don't want to get hurt" then yeah I will say "**** off then". I'm just not sold at the moment, the guy is not a 30-40 fight veteran, he is an over-protected prospect thrown into the deep with no preparation for such an opponent, he got pounded on by a tough, hard hitter who wasn't gonna fall down after a few punches, and he didn't like it, because he never felt it before(sound familiar?).
