Those who think its the end of the World for Tony Jeffries....

its not the result its the performance he hasent improved from fight to fight , infact id say hes got a little worse

 

i see your point but Tony sadly ain't of Robin Reid's quality. The lad needs to knuckle down but viewing the video on his facebook looks like excuses..excuses.

 

I don't see why Jeffries gets all of this criticism to be honest. He hasn't adjusted to the pro game as quick as the others seem to have, but give the lad time. At least he had a good eight rounds against a solid opponent, rather than blasting out some Latvian.

If he is to be believed, he fought injured, fought through a bad cut, and had to do an extra two rounds than he thought. And he did all of this against his toughest pro opponent to date.

The draw will do him more good than harm, he's got plenty to improve upon thats for sure, but IMO, its something he is definitely capapble of....Remember before the Olympic qualifiers, Jeffries was taken off of the Podium Squad because he wasn't performing. He got back on the squad, qualified at the worlds, and medalled in Beijing.

As others have said, He needs to stop fighting in Sunderland, where he is a star and the pressure is on, fight further down the undercards on Franks bills and see how he gets on

I remember when all the olympians went pro, it was thought that Tony had one of the best styles to adapt to the Pro game....I remember people thinking he would be more successful in the Pros than Gavin!

He needs to get a jab sorted, and quickly.

 

tony looks as though he as the tools to become a very very good pro,whats happend as happend its how you react to it.good luck to tony has everyone jumps on the old bandwagon

 

i think jeffires can come back and do very well. theres still something about him. would like to see him change trainers.

 

to be fair 90% of this forum have been down on him for a while.

 

And elsewhere too. Not sure why. He hasn't set the world alight but he's looked like a tough, solid pro. He IS progressing too, it's just his level of opposition has improved. King over 6 rounds or above is a very tough test and likewise Banbula on his recent form, especially for a guy who's not even had 10 fights.

Friday's fight isn't the end of the world. Plenty of successful fighters draw or lose early on in their careers and very few remain undefeated anyway. Losing, getting knocked down, getting cut etc etc its all part of boxing. I'd still back Jeffries to pick up a domestic title next year.

 

the fight on friday may be the wake up call jeffries needs, he now has to forget his own hype and knuckle down with the hard tasks of improving his stamina and his technique. also does anybody believe his excuse about tearing his bicep 2 weeks before the fight? i know that i'd never allow one of my boxers to fight with an injury that would hamper the most important thing for a fighter his arms

 

do you mean a masters title or something like that, because i would be seriously surprised to see Tony stepped up like that so quickly. I like him, but it is painfully evident that he needs good sparring urgently, and a possible change of trainer. Get it done early, because it does not seem as if he is progressing.

 

I never felt Tony would get beyond Domestic. I said a long while back in a thread he be a success if he got European. Some people compared him to Clinton Woods. I never write a fighter off after a fight early career anymore because you learn that boxing is a funny old game. But i really don't see doing a Amir Khan type resurgence and changing trainers and mentality. Khan was straight out next day admitting his wrongs, Tony's complaining.

 

Feel a bit for the lad coz he took ages turning pro with all the trouble with promoters and so on and he is such a HUGE ticket seller what promoter in thier right mind isnt gonna put him on cards up there?? Might not be good for him at this developmental stage, he should be down here at the York hall for a couple of fights but this is boxing. Its not the end of the world, better to have a couple of shits nights early and learn than get found out down the line when its more likely to be too late. Key is to learn and stop tweeting every 3 minutes

 

I hope he doesn't listen to his dad too much; you always want family support but he's been going overboard with the defense of Jeffries, it'll be a whole lot better for Jeffries to have a rational look at what happened and realise the flaws and mistakes he has to work on.

 

he's already changed trainers from galagher to rimmer, blaming the trainer is opting out, he could be made better, but some boxers are in front of him from go, as they have more defensive ability, if he lives in sunderland why does he not train in the north east, with dolan and the dickensons etc.
