I think Wlad underestimated Jennings a bit, and found himself in a fight where his jab and right hand were not landing as much as he would like, thanks to Jennings high guard defense, reach, heart, and durability. I think Jennings is a top 3-4 heavyweight now, behind only Wlad and Povetkin for sure. You could say Wlad's usual game wasn't working. So what did he do? He switched gears and became more of a mobile type of fighter. Wlad's footwork is outstanding for a heavyweight. He moved like a big Jim Corbett. His defense was pretty good as well. When the ref took away a point for clinching, Wlad didn't lock up, he just bulled his man when needed. Wlad can make on the fly adjustments.:deal Jennings made a rally of sorts in the mid rounds, but Wlad sensed it, and made sure he won the final rounds. In round 12 with the fight in the bag, Wlad showed us he had plenty left and unloaded more often on Jennings. I though he hurt Jennings a bit in round 12. This was not a fight where an older champion had to come from behind KO his man. This was not a fight where an older champion needed some " help " from the judges to eek out a win. This was not a close fight where an older champion struggled to defeat a much younger man. Past their prime fighters just do not have this type of foot speed and stamina. Nor do they throw a lot of punches. They just don't. Wlad will look very good vs. Fury or Glazkov. The interesting thing for me is where does Jennings go from here? I often said USA heavies have gone soft and if one emerges it going to be from Philly, NY, or the poorer areas of California.
It was one fight. If he looks like **** against a skill less oaf like Fury then the talks can start. One fight isn't enough.
There is no such thing as a perfect heavyweight. Wlad will smash Fury. Could be a bit like the Pulev fight.
Lennox had $hit fights like this? Vitali? Mike T? Hollyfield? And people claim Wlad is top 5 ATG? Puh-lease
The last time Wlad looked prime to me was the Wach fight and even then that might be down to the fact he had a lumbering sloth in front of him with a style to make him look good. Fact is at 39 Wlad is not in his physical prime, to think so is as deluded as Bailey thinking a Hopkins in his early 40's was prime. I wasn't impressed with his fight against Pianeta, his coordination has looked off ever since that fight. When he tried to KO Povetkin he smothered his own work and looked so clumsy I thought I was watching a Tyson Fury fight. He had nothing in the form of resistance from Leapai yet still took him 5 rounds to finish him. The Pulev fight is really the only fight where I think he looked good since Wach. Wlad is just a mortal man, an exceptional one but still just a man, nobody beats father time.
