Those who underrate Pacquiao the most are those who think JMM outboxed him over 12 rounds in the rematch and that Pac just edged it due to his speed and power. That's not the case at all. Pacquiao boxed for 95% of that fight and had it not been for the 3rd round KD would have boxed on even terms with the master technician that is Marquez. I attribute alot of Pac's success at these higher weights to the learning experience that was the 2nd Marquez fight.

Pacquiao is also a master technician but it gets overshadowed because he is also an athletic phenomenon

Pacquiao boxed beautifully in that fight, he has a great ring IQ, but that doesn't mean someone can't think Marquez simply landed the cleaner effective punches for one or two more rounds.

You're probably right though in terms of the trend of thinking of people who underrate him and simply cite this as a loss to discredit him. He can look for openings, set up shots, counter, and control the pace from time to time.

I've got nothing against someone thinking JMM landed the cleaner effective punches for one or two more rounds even though I disagree. But that's not was I was referring to. I'm talking about those guys who think Pacquiao was lost against Marquez and that all he did was try to outslug him or overpower him.

Plus ironically, they discredit him due to team's pac weight draining tactic.

They fail to see or forget that Pac killed himself to still make 130 lb in that Marquez 2nd fight (as early as MAB II, his body ain't a super fly anymore). Heck, though Roach is probably exaggerating, he claims Pac even "tries" to drain in Diaz fight - the last time they even make an effort to be stressed about making weight.

Pac did seem to have trouble making weight, but they both rehydrate roughly 10 pounds; a bit high, but fairly usual. Usually there is either a dramatic weight increase (over ten pounds), or a very minimal weight gain due to the shrinking of the stomach/dehydration, when a fighter is really drained to make weight. I'm sure Pac would have done better if he hadn't had to make weight, but hell, who wouldn't with that advantage? It's the whole purpose of fighting at 147 at this point.

Pac rehydrated 16lbs in that fight - from 129 to 145. You can see his mouth open from the 2nd round.

The rematch was close but Marquez won the fight IMHO.... did he school Pac in the manner he himself was schooled by FMJ ?... No, of course not but he won more rds & deserved the win + had the biggest rd of the fight in 7 or 8 were Pac looked ready to go.

JMM was just too small to overcome Floyd's size. The JMM of the Pac fight against Floyd at 130 is a completely different turn of events than a fight 17lbs higher. Floyd just jabbed the **** out of Marquez who basically couldn't do anything cause he was getting knocked back by jabs. The weight difference was too much for Marquez.

As for Pac v. Marquez, Pac was nowhere near being ready to go. Even if JMM had a big round in the 8th there is still a mountain to climb between having a big round and knocking Pacquiao out. JMM was alot more "ready to go" in the 3rd than Pac in the 8h. You quite fit the mold of one of those people I'm referring to.

  11. i give pacquiao mad props. i think he's the best boxer of this era and an atg. however, after having literally studied the fight in question, i can only come to the conclusion that marquez won that fight. i honestly think he that outboxed pacquiao and that he dictated the pace. i am in no way attempting to discredit pacquiao's accomplishments. if they ever fight again, i believe that pacquiao will win. in fact, im pretty sure that he's now able to outbox marquez. jmm has slowed down considerably and pacquiao has become an animal, a beast. i cant believe what i see when i watch him fight. it's not right. nothing but respect for pacquiao and Filipinos fight fans.

I am amazed at the large number of Pacquiao Fans that just can't see difference in Pacquiao when fighting a Skilled Fighter like JMM and fighting two Flat-Footed Easy-2-Hit fighters in his last 2 fights. To Date...JMM is the MOST SKILFUL FIGHTER Pacquiao has faced. And what does he have to show for it: A DRAW AND A SPLIT DECISION (I scored Fight #2 a draw). But two stationary targets that just stood flat-footed and offered Nothing in the way of Skill, Speed, Athleticism, Movement or Defense (Clottey and Margarito) are the fights that people have come from obscurity saying Pacquiao is the greatest EVER...REALLY?

Even the Hatton fight was more about Hatton's Flaws than Pacquiao's ability. Example:
On this sensational KO (and it was sensational by the way...WHAT A ****ING SHOT!!!)
    This content is protected

Pacquiao didn't set this shot up with a jab or a feint, but Hatton just came straight forward, closed distance with his hands down and chin exposed...POW!!!! So now, I would imagine the next question from Pacquiao Fans is: "Why did it take Mayweather 10 Rounds?". Answer: Floyd Mayweather is not a power Puncher that throws BIG-TIME Power Shots. He simply outboxes people. In fact...tell me the last 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or early round KO from Floyd Mayweather, I'll Wait....

In the JMM fight, who won the later round of each fight? And how were they won? Fans of Pacquiao will say that JMM came on strong late. Critics of Pacquiao will say that Pacquiao faded in the later rounds. Which is true...Both, IMO. As a Boxing Fan, I have never and will never say that Pacquiao is a terrible Fighter...That's just STUPID. I am well aware of how Talented "The Pacman" is. He's fast, Athletic and Skillful. But what I just don't understand, is why is it BLASPHEMY to want to see Pacquiao in the Ring with a Fighter who is Just as Fast, Athletic with Elite-Level Skill. Why does someone have to be labeled a Hater, A Racist, A ***, or not liking Pacquiao when asking why he's fighting fighters with far inferior skill at catchweights?

As a fan of Floyd Mayweather, I have criticized my favorite fighter time & time again...and it makes me NO less of a Fan. And to Acknowledge Pacquiao’s choosing of inferior opponents make you NO less of Fan. In fact, it tells everyone that you are a BOXING FAN FIRST!!!

But darryl, dont solely put the blame to Pac and his team. It's hard not to cherry pick in this era we live in.

It's not like Pac didn't do his fair share of fighting the best (and steying in a single division, dominating it decently before moving up) in the form of the best 3 warriors in flyweight. In higher weight, there's only Floyd and Cott that knows how to properly box, i don't have to tell the story on those 2. You sound like a sensible and an objective critic, im surprised you're also drawn at the catchweight issue. Pac beats the 2 catchweight fighters he fought any weight they want (cotto vs pac II at 154 is gonna stink if that happens), the result is too much of a blowout not to make that conclusion.

Then there's not much talent out there that fits the bill of: skilled, slick, a boxer (not a slugger), plus can MAKE PEOLE WATCH the fight in a marketing standpoint (alexander, bradley are still green to fit that bill).

He absolutely set it up with a feint. Look at Pac's right hand before he throws the KO punch.

If you rewind about 15 seconds he throws the EXACT same combo. He saw Hatton wanted to counter his jab with a left hook, and when Hatton throws his left hook he drops his right hand. So he feinted a jab, Hatton obliged and threw his hook and dropped his right hand, and Pac mollywopped him.

agreed. A lot of these so called true boxing fans are unable to properly dissect a fight.

Also, he says JMM is the most skillful fighter Pacquiao has faced, well JMM is hands down one of the top5 most skillful fighters of the last decade. And it's not like Pacquiao can fight someone like Hopkins is it? So JMM is the most skillful fighter that alot of people have faced. And Pac showed he could match skill for skill with JMM over 12rounds.

Sasakul is another very skillful fighter that Pac fought, and Pac knocked him out when he was still a teenager not half as good as he is today. Barrera was also a very skillful fighter, and Pac demolished him.

Pac is well rated by a lot of people but still extremely underrated by a large group of fans who are sort of delusional about what they consider weak opposition or poor performances.
