I used too just think dont be a wimp.

But now i just dont train. Get plenty of rest good food and hydrate and go back to it when im feeling right. Iv done it plenty of times and at best you just have a **** work out and at worse you make yourself iller or it lasts longer

Depends on how ill I am. If it's just a mild cold or something that doesn't leave me feeling weaker then I will just keep to my normal routine. Anything more I just don't bother training at all and get the rest I need. I currently have a wretched cough, haven't trained in 2 weeks and feel ****ing terrible.

    depends.
if its an infection somewhere in your body (tonsils, glands etc) then avoid it, training produces inflammation across the body.
If its something like a head cold, or even manflu symptoms, it will probably affect your endurance and stamina, but you can technically train.
Activity, fresh air and exercise will speed up the healing process.

If it's something serious, don't train. If it's just a little cold and you're being lazy, go and train.

    This.

Additionally (from a guy who's had pneumonia 4 times and gets deathly ill for about 3 months out of every year):

    Sleep. A lot.
    Eat. A lot. And healthily.
If it's in your chest, training just isn't worth it.
If it's in your sinuses, don't spar.
If it's just a cold, do what feels alright but don't go nuts and make things worse.
If it's exceptionally bad or tastes/looks infected, get to the doctor and take care of it early before it ****s you up.

Apart from the effect it has on you, you could also pass on whatever cold or whatever you have to other people at your gym. They won't thank you for that.

If you have a cold, take time off to recover, it isn't going to do any harm, not like you won't be training for a month or two.

Why some people feel the need to train through illness I don't know. Your body is attempting to fight an illness, let it do it's job.
