Does it make you crazy or mute the sound when a country’s national anthem’s sung before the fight?

Was a time when the Star Spangled Banner sent chills up your spine when a singer belted those impossibly high notes and held’em till glass broke. Now they have a motley collection of “artists”, or someone the promoter wants ta pop, contorting the anthem till Francis Scott Key’s eyes would glaze, because they haven’t the chops to sing it right.

The Philippines stands out as the only country at the moment with the pride to make sure it’s sung thrillingly. A Diva dressed-to-the-nines does it. Don’t know her name or speak the language, but her operatic rendition puts the Philippines front ‘n’ center and shows respect for their nation’s rich tradition in the game.

The Mexican anthem has those same rousing elements in the music; but it’s done to lesser affect because of the disparity of talent that sing it. When done right, everyone would wanna be an Aztec warrior.

You’d think countries would wanna put their best foot forward in front of the world, not just call up a local in the crowd who knows the words to wing it. With some countries, it's like cringing at a sixth-grader singing at a school assembly.

As long as the national anthems are obligatory, wish they were done at their best; it would add that much more fuel to the fire.

JG, dont recall her name, but the woman from the Pussycat Dolls who sang during the DelaHoya/Forbes fight gets my vote as the best rendition I've seen in a long time. haha.

Marciano Walcott I had no singing for the anthem, just the music from the army band. Pretty neat. The anthem has been song at a lot of big fights. So I have no issue with it. The only issue I have is when some one is booing one or the other anthem.

All national anthems should be respected..ALL OF THEM. That's what turned me off so much about the British fans at the Mayweather-Hatton fight who booed out anthem. It's ironic because I've always liked the tune of God Save the Queen so much. It's beautiful and majestic at the same time. It was always cool when Ken Buchanan came into the ring accompanied by the bagpipes. That was great.

Remember Rosanne Barr singing the American anthem at a baseball game...? Those who made that decision should have been tarred and feathered along with that American armpit of a celebrity -and paraded across the field. I think we should bring back tarring and feathering.

A top of the bill boxing match is a sporting event not a singing contest; in Britain the National Anthems got booed into extinction, I hope in due course everyone else follows.

Them songs are a real nuisance.

I hate ring walks, national anthems, 10 count moments of silence, lengthy introductions, and pretty much anything that is holding the fight up.

I take that back. Those things give me time to go get another beer.

I was thinking about this recently, what are the coolest sounding national anthems? The star spangled banner is good when sang right, but the UK and Russia also have awesome sounding anthems.
