I heard about these 3 different fights last night while I was out but I managed to watch the replay on hbo this morning. Berto vs Ortiz...damn, Ortiz is a freak! First time I saw him was in an undercard fight on a Pacquiao fight. Forgot which one was he fighting but it was before the Maidana fight and he was really great and you could see his power. It was at lightweight I think and he really even looks better last night. You can see that willingness to win. I dislikes the idea of Berto being the no.1 option for Pac. He just didn't have that stuff to be hanging out with the elites...yet, and that really showed tonight. But he actually showed some toughness last night for finishing the fight despite getting knocked down by victor's power punches. I already thought about him fighting Pac the first I saw Ortiz. Ortiz still looks big strong at welter. I think he'll stand a chance against Cotto and Pac....(...and Mayweather). As for Khan, it was the first I saw his full fight last night. Damn there's something in him that reminds me of Pacman. He did raise his hands kind of similar to Pac when he wanted some more. He punches straight lefts and rights combo with some weird angles just like those Pac's at his younger days. Pac still does that but with more cautious by letting himself open for a counter by this big welters. Back to Khan, his handspeed is his best weapon. He was winning all rounds last night although I thought the fight should've last a little longer than 6 rounds. Khan looked more superior than the other guy on all aspect so it wouldn't really change the outcome on who would win if they continued. Now for the Lopez fight, I didn't see it yet but I heard that the Ref did a bad decision for stopping the fight at the 8th round. Well, that must've been a 2x times as bad as it already. He lost the fight for the first time and also lost a potential mega showdown with Gamboa.
Just glad we're seeing boxing the way fans like me should get see it. Hope to see more of these great boxing match ups.
The Lopes stoppage was good. It wasn't like it was the first time he got dazed in the fight. If I'm not mistaken, he had been getting battered for three rounds.
Can't really blame the Ref if that's how he saw it. Either he couldn't recover on the assault or he waited too long to respond, gave the ref the signal to stop the fight. Gotta look harder for the highlights. Can't seem to find it lol.
Berto-Ortiz: Great fight, shame people have to throw around "exposed". "glass-chin",, and "hypejob" around. Berto had a really bad corner. Everyone was yelling at him telling him different things. Don't understand why they stopped Khan fight. Lopez was rocked but the problem with the stoppage is he stopped it after Juanma threw back. Ref should have given the champ a little more time. No complaints though.
