Thoughts on Abner Mares?

pEREZ WILL BATTER HIM. From what I've seen of Mares he's all hype.

 

He wouldn't be in there if he couldn't :good

looking forward to seeing him. Bantamweight is a **** hot division right now.

 

Perez is as tough as **** and far more experienced than Mares but Abner I think could do it. I like the way he puts his punches together and goes to the body. Possibly a bit soon for him but I think he may just do it.

 

Is he ****, as an inexperienced fight in his early 20s he looks a very sound prospect to me. Of course there are shortfalls but he puts combinations together well and he has some power in his punches.

Perez will be a bit too far for him in this fight but I see Mares putting on a good fight. No-one is proclaiming him as future SBW champ and p4p star so how is he all hype? He will be mixing it around the top 10 for a while and I think thats fair hype for the lad.

He was being hyped before the operation.

As it goes, he showed himself to be very good, with two sided to his game. A rematch is a necessity, personally felt Mares won it 7-5 but certain rounds meant Perez couldve had it by the same score. A draw was fair IMO.

 

I was very impressed with Mares last night, especially his ring generalship, think he's got a huge future. I thought he edged it, scored it 116-113 but as you say cant have any complaint with the draw. A few of those middle rounds were difficult to score.

He fought similar to Martinez against Pavlik, not so much stylistically but he went toe-to-toe the first 4 rounds, spent the next 4 on the back foot getting backed up, and just when you thought Perez like Pavlik was starting to get stronger and would dominate from there, got a 2nd wind in the 9th and was excellent the last 4.

 

Mares vs Hasegawa/Montiel/Donaire/Agbeko/Perez II are all intriguing matchups. With this performance he's put himself right in the mix.

 

It was happening trust me. As it stands, he's an impressive fighter. Let's hope Hasegawa bounces back and the fights we wanna see happen.

 

i had it 115-113 to Mares as he won the last 2 rounds. think he will get the re-match. Bantamweight is a really good division right now you could make allot of good fights especially with darchinyan and donaire moving up.

those saying Mares is a hype job had probs never seen him. just heard he is goldenboy so hate on him

Flea last i heard Hozumi is moving up to super bantam or feather.
