Maybe it's the baby face, but although he's certainly a good young prospect, I'm just not overwhelmed by the long-term potential of Mares. What do you guys think?
Did what he was supposed to do with that opponent and looked good doing it. He obviously has skill but its early and I havent seen enough of him to rate the package.
Very promising young fighter. He was already very good and strong at the amateurs, and pro boxing is better for his style... Another talent in the lower divisions, could be the new Israel Vazquez or something. Great speed, good power, some defensive problems. He needs a few more fights though... but at the age of 22 he looks very good... He'll be ready for a world title in a year and a half... no need to rush anything...
still too earlY to really say anything let the kid develop and graduate to fighting live bodies first before we evaluate
2nd round KO speaks volumes. :good In the first round it looked like Gabi was gonna be too much for him but adjusted well. We gotta follow this guy's steps.
I was just thinking that when someone posted a video of Khan earlier tonight, it took me a second to realize it wasn't Mares.
I'm all aboard the Mares express. I think he has fantastic potential. He throws very crisp and accurate punches, has some snap to his punches, is quick, has good movement, excellent counterpunching.....to just name a few things
I think Mares is quite impressive. No need to rush him into a world title just yet. Get him in with some tough fringe contenders to take him a few tough rounds.
