Forrest might upset Abraham! It's actually his best opponent so far! If that happens then I'll be hoping for Williams/Wright winner vs Kelly!

Makes more sense to be on the same card to hype up Pavlik/Abraham. It's what you call a co-main event!:dead

Forrest vs Abraham is interesting but Pavlik vs Mora is a ****ing disgrace. Arum treats Pavlik like a baby and keeps feeding him sacrificial lambs.

For the most part I agree with your points. However, those of us who post in this forum daily have a different perspective from the casual fan. We are the hardest of the hard core fans. An average or casual boxing fan does not disect things the way we do. For the casul fan Mora is a "Contender" champion at 160, and a former world titlist at 154. Pavlik is that skinny white kid that Hopkins beat. Casual fans will think this is a fair fight.

Then the bell will ring...and those same fanatics will say "Wow this Mora guy had no chance. What a mismatch."

Honestly I don't even think casual fans know who Sergio Mora is anymore.

I look forward to them both.

Because Abraham vs Forrest might end up being a decent scrap and because I don't really like Mora.

My point is that we allow promoters to get by with one good event to a card. (OK, sometimes not even that) The sport would be better off to drop the term "main event" totally. Even have some fights after the 'big names'. Gives folks like me something to do while the casuals are fleeing to the traffic jam.

I made a thread about Boycotting Pavlik/Mora, but when I think about Mora getting his ass handed to him, well -- sometimes I think I might have to break my vow.

This is the reason people may be indifferent, or even dislike boxing. It's all politics. Arum and Sauerland may know exactly what they're doing, but by the time they get it all straightened out, they will have lost the casual fan that may have been interested. I think people get sick of waiting around. We know how boxing works, but like boo said, it's because we are die hards. We live in an ADD society. You have to strike while the iron is hot.

Arum talked about Forrest/Pavlik at one point, but then he invoked his mantra, "he wants to much money."

Now Forrest will fight Abraham, and money does not seem to be a problem.

I'd like to see the numbers. What did Arum offer Forrest, and how much is Sauerland paying him? That would certainly provide some insight into what Vernon thinks.

forrest is, at this age and level of boxing decreptitude, only a danger to abraham if something lights a fire under him before training camp begins and burns for the duration of the fight itself. the pair of fights with mora illustrate this point. in the first fight vernon walked into the ring reeking of the following sentiments, 'i'm getting old. everything hurts. just get this over with. beat this second-rater and go home...i should have been as famous and marketable as shane mosley...my career got jobbed...what happened?" then, not surprisingly, he dropped the fight when mora didn't roll over and show forrest his belly. mora was all over forrest in smart, economical flushes. forrest might have worked the body, jabbed at range, cut off mora's circles to the left, but he just hung in there aimlessly waiting for mora to finish working and offering a potshot in return. after that, vernon was embarassed and all that self-pity and frustration turned into a rolling boil in the dressing room after the fight and carried through camp and into the rematch in which vernon remembered that just because he couldn't carry sugar shane's media mantle, doesn't mean he didn't beat mosley when he was hanging around the top of the pound-for-pound rankings.

if forrest signs to fight abraham and resigns himself to not being able to hang and bang with the energy and strength of a younger champion, he's done. he'll be systematically worn down by abraham's consistent, measured, roughhouse assaults. if he gets mad enough to invest himself, body and soul, he can probably carry the extra 6 pounds well enough to jab abraham off balance as he comes in swining, throw the short left hook inside to open up those sweet spots for the long, straight right hand, use the ropes to catch abraham's feet out of order and work the body out of position. vernon can win this one.

I enjoyed reading that. A highly motivated Vernon Forrest is a good step up for AA. Vernon might look at this as a last hurrah; last chance to really grab the spotlight. If that is the case, Arthur could be in for a long night.

mora is a reasonable, if undersized and lacking the intangibles that make a terrific fighter, opponent for pavlik as he still sputters a bit on his way back from 170 pounds, on his way back from embarassment, on his way back from realizing a smart, technical boxer has got his game in a vice every time. i am not a fan of pavlik. i don't care for his plod, then explode sloppily and hope the other guy gets sloppy too style, but he has made it work for him at the world title level. i have to give him that. getting fighters to fight the wrong fights is a major success in the prize ring. mora, of course, has the technical acumen to slip, move laterally, work behind the double jab, bounce off pavlik on the inside and get back to center ring. mora has the speed and clarity to win the fight. however, if he gets caught and hurt he might crumble and fall. if he gets caught and hurt, which i think he probably will because he intimidates himself out of believing a technician can hustle a puncher for the duration, he might try to stand and punch--as if that is his only option. mora has the tools to win, by a comfortable margin, but instead he'll get knocked out in 5.

I disagree with pretty much everything you just said. Pavlik went 89-9 at very high levels as an amature, and went jab of jab with Jermain Taylor, not once, but twice. He is much better technically than you are giving him credit for. Taylor, who beat BHop twice, fought the right fight in his rematch with KP, and still lost a clear UD.

Moreover, I do not think Mora will go out in 5 rounds. I'm more inclined to believe Mora will quit on his stool after he realizes that there is no hope. Everytime he moves right, he'll get battered by those long left hooks Pavlik throws. When he moves left, right hands pummell both the head and the body. Anytime he tries to open up, he'll lose the exchange. Pavlik will just keep walking him down and working him over until Mora quits after 8-9 rounds.
