My scores: 1 ggg 2 ? 3 ggg 4 ggg 5 ? 6 c 7 c 8 ? 9 ggg 10 ggg 11 ggg 12 ggg ? are swing rounds. If somebody argued them for Canelo I'd find it reasonable. But I could likewise put up a good argument for Golovkin winning them. My final score was GGG 8-4.
I agree with the first 4 since I've had a second and third look. Canelo does barely anything in the first 4 rounds. Not that Golovkin does that much more, but he's clearly winning these or at least the majority on, effective aggressiveness, ring generalship, defence and clean punches.
Post fight odds of 7-1 were available for Canelo. Putting aside the verdicts of the majority of tv viewers and ringside observers as well as my own (possibly biased) score, this detail cuts through everything else and tells us who won the fight. Canelo was mucho impressive and proved to be one tough hombre, but despite those highlights I saw Golovkin outworking him in the majority of rounds and winning, close but clear.
It was on Betfair. Just tried searching but my Google-fu isn't up to much, just getting pre-fight odds instead. 7-1 does seem overly generous especially considering Canelo's history of scorecards weighted in his favour.
We also agree on Kovalev vs Ward 1. My sense is Mcvey has cooled down a bit. It had to happen sooner of later.
The second. Overwhelming GGG And there are a series of reason why people would do the same for Canleo. His fans, and for Hopkins. And the anti euro hate crowd, which is still there. Don't mix apples and oranges. You are comparing one event to something totally different. Bias works both ways. I think when you put a score card out there, you're name goes on it. As such if you make a living doing this, you card has to be reasonable. Wouldn't you agree? If forced to pick between a concise of media score cards and three judges in a big fight, I might go with the media. And as I said a comp box judge is often better than a real judge, not the excellent ones mind you, but the one that are picked for promoter's pets. Were these free seats? If so, they should not complain. Some people cover boxing for the media pass and free seats. Dan Rafeal said not a single writer in the press row had the fight for Canleo. You can read that in the general forum.
If you were 30 years younger you might see it better. If you still hot-tempered at whatever age you are I suggest your next vacation should be Norway in the winter. When you were away I saw far less heated arguments here.
Oh, I do hope McVey and Mendoza don't get into it again. I enjoy both their postings, but not when it's a no-holds barred alley fight with eye gouges.
Colombia is great so far, warm and friendly culture. I'm by the beach, warm water, really green surroundings. Women are beautiful and the coffee is awesome .. You might get the DR , that sounds great .. There is a gym near me here so I'll check it out and see if any boxing is going on
Another point id like to make is that in the first 30 seconds of the 12th round, GGG has a phase that is better than any phase that Canelo has in the entire 36 minutes they spend fighting. Had the one judge that scored that round for Canelo done the opposite, it would have 'officially' been a draw. Scoring that last round for Canelo seems pretty incompetent to me.
