If first fight was a draw so was the second time why not a third fight.

I'm sure Abel was aware of just how much trash he was talking. And that he ended up being mostly wrong. Not sure he wanted his own reputation tied so much to the fiasco. He also seems more apt than most viewers. It's like Freddie Roach post-Horn fight to Pac, or Jackson post-Ward fight to Kovalev. They kept it too real, were too aware. At a certain point the trainer has their own life, own thoughts on reputation, and also their own opinions. Some boxers' teams can hold them back by toting the line too much. I don't think anything Abel has said post-fight is out of line. Strange to think less of him. I imagine he preserved some of his image as opposed to continuing to drone on after having been wrong on most of his typical, corny pre-fight talk that all trainers must go through.

@CST80 correctly pointed out the issue with this.
A lot of boxfans (especially when from the US as they usually benefit from it) are perfectly fine with close fights always going the way of the home/featured fighter, even when the consensus is that the other guy did enough to win.
Boxing history will show Golovkin going 0-1-1 against Canelo, probably never winning the lineal championship and not breaking the MW record, while according to most watching he sure as hell did and should have gone 2-0 or 1-0-1 at least. His legacy has been tarnished due to politics and thrown away in exchange for a couple of (huge) paydays.
Of course it will be mentioned as a sidenote, but he probably retires with even less to show for it as Norton for his Ali trilogy.

The fight was close, and could easily have gone to Alvarez, so it's not a downright robbery as some call it. But like always, scoring went against the consensus, toward the a-side. The deck will always be stacked.

A really well stated post... A very blunt and confrontational way of expressing the argument of people not in an uproar would be to quote Dillon's "I woke up. Why don't you?" As if we all haven't spent big chunks of our life thinking about the issue. You treat each fight as their own, as you do anyway. There will always be film for the history books for people to view and make their own opinion. And that's what can cause such bickering in people that follow our sport, difference of opinion and discussion of everything about the fight. In this case scoring. The rest comes down to deep depressing life and money money money mooooney...

If they rematch, that is what will happen. Same weekend 2019, would make the trilogy one year apart each time.

    Incredible.fight
Clearly GGG got shafted in the first but as much as I dislike Canelo he earned that second win.
Great performance from both guys and would love to GGG find a strategy to beat Canelo so let's see it one more time

It's about time people should refuse to fight Canelo & just freeze him out as IMHO GGG has been shafted twice now by the judges in Vegas & no one is EVER gonna get a fair shake!

He can't be that sexual deviants cash cow if he isn't fighting & bringing any cash in.Its the only way to stop this bull**** from continually happening!

Good call on Hopkins. Fishnets has always been phony and protecting cash cow Alvarez so thats nothing new. But Bhop was suppose to be Mr. Anti-eastabishment back in his heyday yet is acts like an ******* just like fishnets now. Funny how situations change people .

Not gonna happen bro, fighting the cash cow means big payday. They are just gonna keep pimping out the Mexican fanbase. Like they did with that Chavez Jr. farce.

I just don't see Canelo granting a rematch. He deeply despises Golovkin and the 1-0-1 gives him his precious bragging rights.

GGG needs to repent. That's twice he's been screwed by a crossdresser. He did win with the contract though for the second fight.

    Very good video.

It was a great fight, both Canelo and Golovkin showed iron will and equal determination to win. I believe that a split draw would have been fair, as neither guy deserved to lose and certainly it would have been on point as an objective score.

Before the decision was announced, I thought that a Canelo win, although not what we would call a robbery, was the least objective out of 3 possible outcomes, but at the same time, I knew it was coming. I believe that it took a tiny bit away from what was a great fight, because although Canelo showed determination, courage and bravery and in my view didn't deserve to lose, neither did Golovkin, and it felt far from fair for the long reigning, undefeated champion to be stripped of all his belts and undefeated record because one side got the benefit of the doubt.

If there was a room for any controversy or an outcry that could blemish such a great fight, it could have happened only with these scores, and unfortunately, that's exactly what happened. Now we can witness bitter nationalist and ethnic exchanges and bashing over internet and media overshadow a fight of the year candidate and prevail against mutual respect and dignity. One side is going to feel like betraying their own nation if they concede regardless of what they actually thought of the scores, the other side will bitterly stand firm on their positions, and the third side might celebrate one guy today as their perceived adversary of the moment has finally been eliminated and they can move on to the next one.

We definitely deserve to see Canelo vs. GGG III.
