Thoughts on Cotto vacating the belt to avoid Golovkin?

Good god, if you can't respect Cotto's warrior spirit for the first 95% of his career then you shouldn't be allowed to watch boxing.

 

well in fairness that usually happens when fans expect a fight to be at least somewhere near their best and not a bloody cripple

are you actually giving out about the fact that sergio said he was 100% and turned out to have a severely damaged knee that made it near impossible for him to fight

Jesus Christ... there should be a test where you have to match fighters to their picture before you're allowed to step into the arena.

 

Didn't hear he was fighting Geale, although if it's at a catchweight that's bull****. I know Geale is a solid MW but if Cotto fights someone like K9 after Geale, it'll be bad. Geale is a reasonable opponent but he needs to step up after that fight (Heals did get beaten by Barker and destroyed by GGG after all)

Good for him. He gets to do an easy farewell fight when he feels like it, and save himself a severe case of brain damage and pizza face. The man did enough for the sport, I'll give him a pass on this one.

 

So I'm guessing you were one of the guys who picked Sergio to crush Cotto and then changed your mind AFTER the fight?

I had scored the Murray fight to Murray. I knew he had battled injuries for the prior two years. Just like everyone else. I picked Sergio to stop Cotto late. I was very wrong. Just like the overwhelming percentage of posters on this forum.

 

1) It's a duck of GGG.
2) If you are going to campaign at a weight, do so. No catch weights!
3) Why fight Geale when GGG mauled him?

I used to rate Cotto, but he doesn't want any part of GGG.

 

thats exactly why i have no problem with cotto not fighting ggg and holding the belt a little longer if he intends on making a big fight with the belt....hes earned it

ggg should be ashamed that he wants to fight a welterweight to take some lineal belt when everyone already considers him the mw king...cotto has already moved up 2-3 classes during his excellent career....ggg doesnt have a fighter worth a lick on his resume and has yet to move classes for a big fight

 

Seems overboard to say he should be 'ashamed' to want to fight Cotto. It's perfectly reasonable for GGG to want the lineal belt. GGG wants to unify the division, there is nothing wrong with that. I agree Cotto has the right to make some serious money and then retire and I hope he gets the Canelo fight. I hope for his sake he doesn't actually fight GGG but I also hope he gives up the belt if he isn't going to defend it.

 

He is fighting Geale now.... Legit Middleweight, so end of discussion?

 

What's funny is, if you told everyone on this board in April 2014 that Miguel Cotto's next three fights would be against Sergio Martinez, Daniel Geale and Canelo Alvarez ... they'd have said he had a death wish because those three guys were going to beat his brains in.

Twelve months later, Cotto he's a "coward" on this board for targeting those guys.

Boxing fans suck.

 

Geale's pretty good. If he beats Cotto, does that mean a GGG rematch?
