They’ve missed a trick by not having a yearly offer of say £20. That hints the price is going up very soon.
Would be terrible business for them to do that if they want to Grow the platform long term. To be sustainable has to be more than £1.99 per month in the long run. This morning a all purely to get some brand position and recognition. on top of that it’s known with subscription models a large proportion forget to canfel
Luckily I got away with it but when I switched on the app in the background was a caption of Smith throwing a jab at Canelo. Have the idiots there ever heard of the word spoiler.
I like it. It worked well for me live during the canelo fight and the replay was out nice and early for the ggg fight. I know others have complained different buffering issues and the app generally not working. Only gripe so far would be that I would like to download content to my phone to be watched offline.
Slightly off topic, but just general how many subs do you need to watch sport. Anyone noticed India vs England in the tour next month hasnt been picked up by Sky. Hotstar/disney will be showing it. Absolute joke
Simply comes down to cost. Sky always pick up England touring tests so the asking price must have been ridiculous. BT never got it either which tells me the price was far more than what it usually would cost.
I've just cancelled sky sports. Any decent fight is ppv anyway. I will miss the football but I work every other weekend so I'm not getting the full value anyway. I've got bt sports only really for the champions league. I think that only starts in February. I got it for Joyce and dubois and the 2 main attractions got beat in the first 2 weeks of having it.
From Disneys POV alot of test match fans are 50 plus. I dont see many of them getting disney or Hotstart subs for 6 weeks. The younger fans either wont be too bothered as it starts at 4.30am each day or will just stream it illegally. Reckon this is a big own goal from Disney/hotstar
Disney offer so much good content that having a test match on there might intice a father to get it for the family
The cricket loss is a major blow for Sky- there is talk that Amazon are after the Ashes rights as well. Personally I’d rather the choice of singular sports at a cheap (sub tenner) price per month than Sky/BT’s model but each to their own. Streaming has seen a massive rise in this calendar year and rights holders will inevitably be taking notice of that fact.
The Ashes home series is far more important. Ashes is valuable but the timings for the tests in Australia are not ideal. First bowl starts after midnight.
There is no doubt they would have preferred to sell the rights but I think they misguided the market as nobody bought them. Many of the Asian community in the UK already have their own sattilite set ups to get the Asian channels as well so they don't need another subscription to watch Indian and Pakistani cricket.
It’s mad how much sky sports quality and quantity has steadily fallen over the last few years and the cheek they have to charge the prices they do !! comparing there coverage from ten years ago to now is like chalk and cheese if you ask me .
