This is an old post I’m sorry if you’ve changed your mind but losing to Cervantes? That’s a fate Duran could’ve met just as much as Esteban he was a great fighter.

To me he was Wilfred Benitez if he put an offence together. Esteban was very good but I don’t like watching him or Benitez anymore. If you want to watch slick boxing Napoles just does it all better.

Not a great fighter. Not a hall-of-famer. I never understood how he beat Duran, much less turned that into a three fight series. Duran must have been partying leading up to that loss.... Regardless, he did beat him, it was an upset, but it doesn't make him a great fighter.

I never thought that much of him, Cervantes, or Benitez....

Gomez won a razor thin decision. 98-97, 97-96, 97-96 were the scorecards. Fight is not available, but what can be got from the articles on it Dejesus was leading decisively through the first 7 rounds, but Gomez came on strong in the last 2. It was a controversial decision. Dejesus felt he won, but it wasn't being called a robbery or anything. Dejesus was a late replacement for Jose Legra who pulled out of his championship match due to flu, so not bad for a late replacement.
