Very good fight! Highly entertaining and fun to watch. Canelo looked good last night. I just think he will struggle at the weight class. He's far too short and his reach will give him problems. Golovkin used range on him very well. As for GGG he's on the obvious decline. Started very slowly. Didn't even throw an uppercut until the 3rd. Didn't really throw a right hand until the 3rd. I think he loses to Jacobs in a rematch. I watched the fight with two Canelo fans (both Mexicans) and they scored the fight 8-4 GGG. My wife, a Mexican nationalist, scored it 8-4 GGG. The bar I was at booed the decision. When Canelo spoke, they screamed at him. All of them Hispanic. After Ward Kov debacle (both fights) I knew there would be problems with the judging in Vegas and it showed. If the rematch takes place it has to happen in the U.K. Or another neutral ground. Otherwise GGG is giving Canelo the W. GGG is a savage. He walked Canelo down in a way he's never been walked down before. Let's see another fighter do that to Saul. After the 6th GGG was literally laughing at Canelos shots. It was insane.
I'll give that a like. On the other hand, I was impressed by Canelo. His footwork was much improved. He kept his speed. His chin was much better too, GGG tagged him with some good punches and he ate them up. I liked his bursts of aggression and I found them impressive. OK, his power didn't bother Golovkin any, who has one of the best chins I've seen, but that's neither here nor there. I still thought that Alvarez carried good pop, enough to gather the respect of any MW without an iron chin. I thought that he would struggle against Gena, and while I still think GGG won fairly clearly (7-5, my score) Alvarez proved my doubts wrong. I thought that his last two opponents were powder puff opponents and that's why he looked good. I thought that he'd be tired by the 6th (he was) but never thought he would come back (he did). In a word, Canelo proved that he can look good against a guy that he doesn't outweigh by a ton and that he genuinely belongs at MW. BTW, Canelo has 1/2 inch more reach than GGG according to Boxrec
Yeah Golovkin has clearly lost a step... Although still a fairly capable operator. Just not the fighter he was 2-3 years ago. I mean... If you understand what happens to the male body at around his age it shouldn't come as a shock(it's not entirely excuse as some are trying to claim). Not to mention that boxer-punchers don't always last as long. 35 is actually pretty old for his style. Look at what happened to Tsyzu against Hatton when he was 35.
Canelo did impress me with his defence. He's just not a force to be reckoned with when it comes to offence at this weight imo. His stamina is awful as well. He rarely does much because he'd gas like David Price if he was active for the majority of the rounds.
This is what I'm talking about...GGG wincing and then pretending to enjoy the pasting he's getting is not impressive. 118-110.
Really really enjoyed the fight, fingers crossed for a rematch. Golovkin won that fight no questions but Canelo did way better than i thought he would, gotta give him alot of credit and reassess where i see him in the Middleweight division now he is in it properly. Dont agree with the drawn card, certainly not the other one but i am looking forward to watching it again to see if i can see different perspectives but i never felt it was ever that close it could of swung either way. But what i wanted was a great fight and i certainly feel like i got that.
