Watched Donaire vs Mathebula again and while watching i saw a discrepancy in the punch stat

in one of the later rounds Mathebula landed a right hand it definitely landed nothing special but Donaire backed away

then the graphic came up power connects this round 9-0 Donaire....now isnt a right hand a power shot

so i waited and thought maybe it didnt register yet but the graphic stayed up and didnt change

    i felt it was odd

i also felt the Bradley vs Pac numbers were off

do any of you consistently count punches in HBO fights do you guys see differences

I know, I was just trollin. I agree with you. Round 5 of Pac/Marquez III is a big example

    Pacquiao 13/45 29%
    Marquez 12/34 35%

now watch that round and tell me that's accurate

I just watched the round and those numbers are a joke

I trust compubox for counting the number of punches thrown. I like it for the most part except when they inflate the punches landed figure for their favored fighter ala Juan-emmanroid III.

You have to use your own judgement and make calls when looking at compubox. Sometimes they'll have completely phony bull**** numbers. It's up to you as a boxing fan to know when that's happening.

Really glad this has came up as a topic, I'm sick of arguing with people about how valid the stats are!... Now I have at least a little bit of evidence to back me up

Wasn't that Juan's best round, one of the best rounds for showcasing brilliant technique in boxing history?

It annoys me during rounds when Lamps tells me how many punches the two dudes at ringside pressing buttons thought the 2 fighters landed in the previous round.

ive been going back and trying to judge fights,,,i think im gonna start trying to count the shots from now on, maybe not the whole fight but watch the next hbo fight and count during some rounds

i know as it happens live with all of it going on and the speed and the grazing glancing partially blocked shots are tough to see without slo mo

but there are some real head scratchers

Somebody should do that one time. Get four posters. One counts punches thrown by one boxer, and the other "punches landed", then two do the same for the other boxer.

Lol if four posters would be willing to take the time. Maybe on a rewatch so they don't miss the actual fight the first time.

I think compubox people should do it AFTER the fight. Have their crew watch the fight in slow motion, and double check, etc. Then you know it'd be pretty accurate.

i think they base their numbers off of lamps calls and vice versa.
