A lot of us ( myself included ) saw this fight 20 years ago. There was quite a bit of build up for this fight, and had been for some time. Lot's of verbage between the two before the match as well. As we all know, Julio took this fight in what was with all honesty, a one sided thrashing, with Camacho having very few moments to talk about. Now here's a thought. I don't think that Hector could have beaten Chavez under any circumstances. But suppose they fought at light weight rather than Jr. Welter, and did so around 1987 rather than 1992, and when they were both in their mid 20's as opposed to age 30. Also this would be during a time period when the activity of these two men was a little bit closer than it was when they actually met. Going into their 1992 meeting, Camacho had only fought once in 16 months, where as Chavez had fought no less than 6 times within that same period. Could both men being 30 years of age, and fighting at Jr. welter favored Chavez more than Camacho? Could fighting at light weight and in their 20's, with a more active Hector, have shown us a level of speed, workrate and stamina that might have made for a closer fight or even an upset?
I always thought Chavez at 130 was just a pleasure to watch. So if they ever fought at super featherweight I still think Julio comes up with the win.
Hmmm...Does Camacho negotiate a humongous ring like he did against Mancini or under the same circumstances they did and is it over 12 or 15.....I think JCC still wins either way, but with a larger ring Chavez might take a little longer to grind him down and if it is over 15 I think JCC would stand a chance to stop him. I don't see camacho winning under any circumstances though.
Fight with Chavez might have ended up different if Rosario didn't put Camacho on his bike the rest his career.
At 135lbs the fight would be competitive for around 4 or 5 rounds, after that it would like like their actual '92 encounter.
