He didn't give Hatton any real grief against Castillo.

The perfect choice. Not as good for Hatton as say Smoger but I think Cortez is gonna be fair for BOTH fighters.

He did warn Hatton b4 the Castillo fight that this was boxing, not wrestling. He just had his way with Castillo and didnt need any of the holding tactics he used against Durango and Collazo. I trhink Cortez would have not allowed him to do what he did in those fights.

Cortez will not allow Hatton to hold like in the Collazo or Urango fight, but I dont think Hatton will need to. He will probably come in his best shape.

I like this choice. Cortez is a solid ref and will be impartial

I would hate for Nady to get this assignment. I don't think Cortez will effect either's chances of winning.

I think it favors Hatton. He did let Balboa get inside on Dixon.

He's going to warn Hatton to watch out for his head and for excessive holding in the locker room and as soon as Mayweather looks across and complains to him. Joe Cortez doesn't want to be a major player in the outcome of this one so he'll go with the flow of the fight and the fighters' n seconds' complaints...

Joe Cortez is actually a great ref for Hatton. He lets fighters hold and arm bar all night. If you doubt me then just go watch any John Ruiz fight he ref'd. Matter of fact if Hatton was Puerto Rican I would call him the favorite based on the ref alone.

Seems to be a good choice. Hopefully he won't disrupt either mans style unless they committ real fouls or slow down the action too much
