The truth is Jones was hidden away by his father for years to allow Lamar Parks, Sosa et al to all fight each other and wear each other down, then Jones came along later on all fresh as a daisy to take their scalps.
In 1991 he’s not beating Nunn, Reggie or McCallum at their bests. In 92 he’s 50-50 with Parks and G-Man. Tony Thornton was still a very live contender then too, before shoulder surgery after popping it v Toney. If he wanted a fresh livewire he’d of faced Calzaghe in 96.
There were 3 close rounds in the fight. If you were generous you give all 3 rounds to Toney, but you could also give all rounds to Jones. I had the same score as Hamada
Not sure what ‘P4P’ means. But no he wasn’t. He wasn’t as good as Reggie Johnson, until he fought Lacy perhaps. And Parks was 20x the fighter Lacy was.
I said P4P because Calzaghe never fougt at middleweight, Parks was an unproven at world championship level.
I've always felt that James Toney was scared of Roy Jones. They had fought some common opponents and Jones pissed on guys James went the distance with. Jones speed and power was a sight to behold.
There it is right there. Even the biggest Toney fan around can only find 3 "close rounds". If you had the same score as Hamada you somehow gave every one of them to Toney. Via Eye on the ring, often a good source the average fan card was 12-0.
