In response to your first comment:

I never said Jake Paul was “a skilled fighter” and have never said he is even remotely close to a world class fighter.

I said he’s more of a fighter than the majority of this forum.

    As to your other post:

I also never said this was some kind of Tyson charity show, it’s pretty clear a lot of people made lots of money off of this…

If you’re not going to read or attempt to understand what I’m saying, don’t quote my messages and act like you’re responding to me.

So “spare me” of your outrage over a bunch of things I didn’t say and don’t believe.

Paul is basically an average Joe with money behind him. You could take a novice boxer and pretty much do exactly what Paul is doing minus the showmanship Paul displays so 98% of people he's better then? No he's not I wouldn't even put it at 50%.
And any hardcore boxing gym Paul would be run out of in 1 day and if he ever sparred a "decent" pro he would more then likely get a beating hence why he never steps into the ring with one.
What you were saying is people should have enjoyed a bout which was clearly scripted to the point it was horrible but were told it wss an exhibition where ANYTHING was possible when it clearly was not.
So this whole 98% he's better then comment is just ridiculous considering who he has faced.

It wasn't scripted. And it wasn't an exhibition. It was a sanctioned bout. Only casual and die hard Mike fanboys thought anything can happen, and they got only themselves to blame. Nobody in their right mind thought Mike could do anything to Paul while he's 58 with health problems. Thank god Paul decided to have mercy on Mike and didn't knock him out cold, which he could do at any point from rounds 3 to 8.

ANYTHING can happen especially in the heavyweight division and especially if someone has power because that is the last thing to leave a fighter. And everyone knows that.
It was a charity bout which featured a great boxer against a pretty good showman who gave the illusion that he was being "merciful ."
And what do you think Paul was whispering to Mike in the first round because he clearly said something and Tyson acknowledged it.
It was 2 minute rounds for Christ sakes so how can that be sanctioned as a pro bout when pro bouts are THREE minutes a round ?
And the thing that I find hilarious is the match actually became a sad affair where people felt horrible for even watching it which completely backfired on Paul because I can assure you people were not entertained in the least which was the entire point of the match.

This should have been called an exhibition.

Total booboo from an actual fight stand point, but the event was Nostalgic for me. Too bad Netflix dropped the ball on the LIVE stream.

I’m not one to blindly jump onto conspiracy theories but at the other, extreme end of the spectrum, I don’t dismiss them out of hand in order to merely and instantly, rubber stamp them as hot air.

Best I can say that while there was no rigid script, there did appear to be a pre fight understanding/agreement as to how much or, in this case. how little effort both men were going to put in.

Aside from instances when it did appear that Mike did pull the plug mid launch on some punches that he could’ve just as easily have landed - there was also Mike showing sufficient stamina to pull off some nice defensive manoeuvres during the fight , all be they brief - rather than actually accenting on a modicum of sustained offence.

Now the answers to all things could reasonably be Mike’s age and years out of the ring.

Those answers wood be fine IF the ravages of age and inactivity were uniformly upheld and observable from first bell - but Mike did some things throughout the fight to belie his age and inactivity being the full answers to or satisfactory explanation for his performance, imo.

One thing, if Mike was legitimately hurt when he fell back from innocent looking punches (the power of same dulled somewhat by 14 oz gloves also) - then his resilience has hit rock bottom.

But, then again, he clearly had issues with his legs - any falling back or stumbling back could be attributed to sub par legs in their own right - without Mike having been necessarily buzzed. .
