I was impressed with his speed and his shots to the body. He also throws good combonations, so tell me what u think.
might sound crazy, but i'm questioning his ability to really put an opponent away. He landed great shots, great solid shots, and as Teddy pointed out he didn't turn over his hooks...his fist wasnt connecting he was just slapping with a glove. GREAT speed and velocity on the shots, and pretty accurate, but at 168 lbs. i expect a fighter that quick - accurate - and dominant for 12 rounds to put their guy away if they've been off for 20 months and last fought losing by KO. Great propsect, just think there's kinks in the armor and his punching power is suspect. Did he bust his hands in the end, it seemed like it? B/c brittle hands wont help him too well either.
He's not a power puncher in the purest sense. He is mainly an elusive speed fighter. Though he certainly has to tighten his defense up a lot if he hopes to make it to the top. I think that if he can slow down just a notch(not his punch speed, his overall hyperness) he can do well. When he got Ikeke in trouble he wasn't taking the time to place his shots, he was just smothering with combinations hoping to catch him. I think given time and proper training he can be a force in the division. But he has a ways to go, especially in the defensive department. He was getting hit with a bit to many shots for my liking.
He's built like Lacy, but without the power, killer instinct, and I'll go as far as to say without Lacy's skill, but I'd say he's quicker. He's got the potential to be a solid contender if he's not too cocky to work on things, but I don't think he's a better prospect than Bute was/is.
He struggled to put his last opponent away, too. He battered the guy for 10 rounds with shot after shot, and eventually got the TKO, but he never outright KOed him. I can name a bunch of guys at 168 that would have put both Pascal's last two opponents away with ease given the opportunity. The guy is fast, so he gives the illusion of having great power. However, I think it's vastly overrated. Pascal also tends to coast and only fight in spurts. During those spurts, he throws caution to the wind and pays 0 attention to defense. He also doesn't pay attention to technical rules. He tries to fight like Roy Jones, by leaping in, but he doesn't have the talent a prime Roy did. Unless you have God like talent, don't attempt to break all the rules. Berto learned that the hard way by getting knocked down in his last fight. The other thing about Pascal is...I don't think he likes to get hit. Ikeke clipped him a couple times, and he really looked affected. The jab also bugged him in the early rounds. You could tell the feeling of his jaw being tested frustrated him. A fighter with straighter, more powerful punches than Ikeke will truly test that chin. And... ...I don't think it will end well for Pascal.
Terrible matchup for him at this point unless he tightens up that defense. Unless you want to see him lose, then it's a great matchup .
Agree with that completely :thumbsup. He does need to settle down and tighten up his defense. I've seen 14 of his pro fights, and he has taken some good hard shots, but those were shots he didn't need to take. I'm not too worried about his chin..which is allowing him to get by on his lack of defense. But if he gets to the top and things don't change, a guy like a Calzaghe would just throw shots straight down the pipe and tear him apart over 12 rounds. He's got the talent, but sooner or later he needs to improve his defense, or he is going to learn the hard way.
Agreed. The other part of the equation is, he needs to adjust his style if he doesn't have the power to end fights earlier. One reason someone like Roy could get away with fighting like that (aside from the obvious speed and skill) is that Roy could end the fight with one combo. I don't think Pascal's got that, and that's an integral part of the style.
wait til Carlito comes on and starts claims Margarito could whoop Pascal at 168... i dont think a day goes by without him with both fists tightly clenching the hair on Margarito's nutsack
I agree with most of what is being said , but I think he already beats Allen Green maybe Lacy could also match speed with mundane.
I am not so sure Pascal can even beat Sakio Bika. Pascal is way to easy to hit , and lacks power. Bika is very tough, relentless and can punch.
Come on Pascal was studying at the Police school for the last 2 yrs to be in the swat. Now that his studies are finished, he can dedicate himself fully to boxing.
