    Joe Bowker
    Alex Lafferty
    Tancy Lee
    Jim Brady

3 Scots boys there were Top lads too, little Jim Brady should have made his way stateside and made a mint!

Those are 3 guys I've looked at. Coulon just missed out but ill probably re look at him.

Dixon matches the weight but I've already ranked him at FW, something I might reconsider.

Moran, his resume in the division isn't the best but he did have a great career all together.

Coulon, Herrera, Rose and maybe Dixon will replace some names in my top 20.

You've undertaken quite a challenge - I find a lot of those old bantamweights extremely hard to rate.

I've never struggled as much with a division before. It doesn't help the weight changing so much in the smaller divisions. Plus a lot of the older guys all beat each other in higher weights thus securing hof status without doing a great deal in the division.

I mean then you have guys like Taylor who was champ for a very short time but managed to defeat both canzoneri and mclarnin as a bantamweight.

I'm starting to see the shape I want and I reckon with a little jiggle I'll be happy.

Zamora was very highly rated in his time and i think Chandler is at the very least top 15. I guess those points are debatable though.

    Very tough division.

I'm sure you know more about them than I do and will formulate a very respectable list :good

I tried a top eighty pound-for-pound list once and these old, small boxers were turning it random because I just couldn't place them.

Nah I don't hate him at all mate, actually like him!

8-12 is still too high IMO. Guess that's why I consider him overrated :good

I used to rate him at feather; found it easier to just swap :good

Looked into Dixon again it's probably fair to consider him the first BW world champion although not that much can be said about the quality of his competition, by that I mean it's too early to make any reasonable judgement due to incomplete records. I usually give the benefit of the doubt in these cases cos I gotta treat a challenger as deserving unless I read reports stating otherwise.

What's even more interesting is this doesn't affect my view of him at FW as that seemed to come after his run south of 118 pounds (aside from the McGovern loss which I must treat as a FW fight otherwise I'll have a head ****).

I reckon from 1889-1893 he was the top BW in the world (Barry came after this run in the paperweight division but kinda amalgamated it up in weight slowly so I will still count him). After this he took about a year from championship fights and then began campaigning at 120 pounds and above which is when I consider him the FW champion from (fits in nicely with Griffo relinquishing his belt).

I'm surprised I missed this when I first looked into Dixon so I'm glad his name was brought up here, my estimation of him p4p has taken a massive boost. I'll tinker some of the names and come in with a slightly (hopefully) better list.

    Manuel Ortiz
    Carlos Zarate
    Fighting Harada
    Ruben Olivares
    Panama Al Brown
    Kid Williams
    Sixto Escobar
    Pete Herman
    Joe Lynch
    Terry McGovern

    Jeff Chandler
    Orlando Canizales

    Rafael Herrera
    Bud Taylor
    Memphis Moore

I think I'm happy with this order for now.

Still no Lupe Pintor???? Why the exclusion. He should be a hair behind Chandler (and a few might argue a hair ahead?) but for me ahead of Rafa and possibly Orlando. I might raise Harrera up myself...I have not in the past I am just starting to dig into him a little bit more.

Did Lora figure into candidates for you and fall just short, or have you not compared him just yet???

Either way solid list for for such a recent endeavor!

Pintor, I'm sure I had him losing his title shot and the rest of his resume doesn't quite stack up but I'll have another look at him.

Lora fell short ultimately. Very close with him. Canizales is mainly in for his reputation as a p4p talent, one he kept over a long consistent period.

Chandler impresses me, he was the man for a significant period of time and looks alright on film. I know Flea don't rate him as high but I'm happy having him within my top 15.

Pintor and perhaps Lujan I'll look into though.

Sixto too high. Harada too high IMO but those two wins can elevate him no doubt.

I did have him winning both as well upon most recent viewing. I gotta lotta love for Harada as a genuine ATG BW.
