So, what do we all think of Rylan Charlton after his demolition job on the admittedly overhyped Joe Laws.
Seems like a decent guy who's built like a tank and with a full camp, can make 135-140. Been fighting on small hall cards so far as a part timer but now looks likely to get a Matchroom contract. Looks good to go at domestic level for sure.

A fun fighter who carries power but is surely to slow at present to mix at the top of that stacked UK welter division. Seems like a nice lad and looks the part so hope he can prove me wrong. I was impressed with his spitefulness and venom in finishing Laws he really wanted to get the job done.

What he did last night was very basic but it was all done very very well
    Sometimes thats all you need

Certainly against a hype job like Laws

    That guys a clown

I just watched this fight and cannot believe Laws managed to win his previous 9 fights.

His previous fights were clearly well scripted against well paid journeymen.

Yeah it's nigh on impossible to judge because his opponent didn't have much of a clue. However he did his part really well and I thought his interview afterwards was top class. I loved his honesty about not giving a monkeys about the crowd. He also refused to play the game of talking up the punch he threw.

I would be happy to see him on some more cards and hopefully against a more cultured opponent.

He came out like a carnival act on the undercard of Hearn's Newcastle shows. He's clearly a popular lad in his village, the camera's panned over to show a big following, so I think he was a useful ticket seller / novelty act with the mask etc.

He dutifully wildly flailed away a couple of journeymen, well I say journeymen, they could as easily have been fellas enticed off the street with a Newcy Brown and a pack of tabs... Whoever they were they didn't last long enough to teach Joe how to box. I felt for him when he staggered up, clearly not knowing where he was and bravely wandered on to a few more of Charlton's heavy punches. It can be a cruel sport at times.

    I agree, @Holler,

As others have mentioned lockdown is giving promoters a matchmaking headache and the hype jobs are getting exposed.

Hopefully Terry O'Connor is available to judge Conor Benn's next fight.

I'd like to see Terry in the ring. Not reffing mind you, just in the ring facing all the guys he's stiffed over the years.

Only need 'Big' John McDermott for this job.

Have disliked Laws ever since his foul mouthed display after an earlier fight

I loved the first knockdown, when Laws left his jaw open and Charlton almost casually replied.

An old workmate of mine trains with Charlton, I was aware of him for a couple of years before he turned pro and heard a lot of good things. Obviously that was only from people close to him and it's very difficult to see how boxers are going to make the change from amateur to pro but that was decent last night, albeit against a bit of a soft touch hype job in Laws.

This sounds a bit ridiculous and way too soon but Benn v Charlton, that could be interesting.

By all account, his ideal weights are 135-140 which if true make him a guy to look out for as he would be huge at those weights and pretty imposing. If his power is legit at a lower weight he could be quite successful at domestic level at least.

His general conditioning looks top notch so just a case of focusing on skills and tactics as he looks to be the sort that lives the life.

Really happy for Charlton, he said after the fight "where is Eddie with a contract"

And Hearn tweeted a wave emoji and a contract emoji straight after that interview, so it looks like he will get more fights on Matchroom cards, so I'm delighted he will make some money and get opportunities.

But we have to see Charlton again to make a real judgement because Laws is seriously poor, genuinely awful, how Laws got on Matchroom shows is beyond me.

I can only assume Hearn wanted to try and create some big nights and interest up in the North East with Ritson and by adding to that with the likes of Laws, but Laws isn't good enough to be on TV cards.

Seems a good lad. Probably British level at his absolute best. As noted by others, hard to judge against Laws who is realistically a club fighter.

Big ticket seller with a personality who - crude or not - does come to fight.

And like you said, off the back of Ritson and Josh Kelly Hearn is trying to build the following in the North East
