I scored this fight a while ago and I believe I had Kalambay winning by 2 points. I watched this fight again today (w/o scoring) and I'm still amazed by some of the exchanges that took place in this fight. I found myself replaying several sequences as they are downright breathtaking. I wish I could make some .gif images because they deserve to be shared. I always talk of Toney McCallum 1 as the definitive middleweight chess match of the 90s but this fight is just as good if not better imo. I honestly think this fight is as good as it gets for technical skills. a must-watch for any fan of the sport. I recommend watching it at least twice, once to score and once to simply enjoy the fight. your thoughts?
Two old badasses. It's not a fight i've ever bothered to score round by round, though i felt it far more even than the British commentary made out...they more or less had it Mccallum won first half, kalambay 2nd, which may have been true in a broad sense but there were a lot of razor close rounds.Maybe i'll watch it again. I think a draw would have been a better result for this than the first McCallum Toney fight.imo McCallum's age caught up with him after this and while he put in a top-notch performance against James,he was losing his physical presence and faded before our eyes over the last 3 or 4.
