Anybody feel like getting a petition rolling for a single belt in each division? the way we did to get the mighty jeff in to prize fighter? if we could possibley manage a few thousand people, plus some big name boxers/promoters/celebs and then send it to the likes of sky and hbo and the ring magazine. I know it's a very big task but I reckon it would be possible
ringside showed that boxing people like to change the rules to suit themself. the board claiming they hold the belts they deal with to a high standard, then in the next sentence mentioning super, regular, interim champs made by those same orgs.or smith and nelson making fun of they belts when they are happy to promote, market or fight for them.As usual everyone looking after they own interest typically short term thinking by boxing.moore gym workout bits are class
SKY or any other TV company should only promote the real titles, WBC,WBA,WBO and forget about the inter-continental straps, regular champs and all that as it's became an absolute joke, Wlad wins the belt from Haye and then he's promoted to super champion and they then set up Povetkin & Chagaev for the regular belt? WTF is that all about, SKY,promoters and BBBOC all need to work together to make it more understandable and push out these bull**** titles, as mentioned last night they're not recognising WBU/F which is at least one step in the right direction. PS - I like Nelson as a pundit during the live fights but presenting i have not got a clue what he's saying most of the time and i'm 100% sure him and Smith are in a relationship haha
You don't have to clear out the division, just prove your superiority. Wlad, Hopkins, Martinez, Marquez, Donaire and Wonjongkam all have good shouts IMO.
Well you could go with those who have made the biggest attempt to fight everyone in the division: Heavyweight: Wlad - not much to argue with here unless big bro wants to fight him. Light Heavy: BHop - if he beats Dawson he pretty much has cleaned up the division considering Cleverly, Clod and Shumanov have done little to prove they are near his standard. Super Middle: winner of Froch/Ward could claim top spot especially if winner fights and beats Bute afterwards Middleweight: Martinez, pretty much a given Welter: can be cleared up if they ever decide to fight each other (you know) Light welter - Khan has pretty much cleaned up other than Bradley who soesn't want to fight him. Lightweight: JMM is pretty much head and shoulders above the rest at current. Bantamweight: Donire V winner of Agbeko/Mares 2 clears this one up Flyweight: Wongjongkam, pretty much a given. Theres 8 divisons that can pretty much give you a standout champion in 1 or 2 fights
The Ring title is obviously quite coveted now - which just goes to show, when an organisation puts a title on the line for the right reasons it becomes a respectable title. Too many alphabet titles flying around merely for financial and promotional reasons, as outlined in this weeks Ringside. I think the best that we can hope for, which will make a great start, is for the four main organisations to drop this 'super' and 'diamond' farce - then take it from there. Trying to explain the current standings to a casual fan is a nightmare and the more you think about it, the more pointless it becomes. Those of us that follow the sport tolerate it and know which fights matter without the aid of straps, it just shows how utterly meaningless some have become.
Its ironic that the introduction of multiple belts to attract the casual fans to watch or pay for "title belts". Is exactly what is turning alot of casual fans away from boxing Its been bad for awhile now, but unless you are hardcore boxing fan its unfathomable who the actual champ is. Although ringside was decent in its coverage of this, the general outcome was that although we could do some things to help, in reality it wont make a whole lot of difference.
Sky just complicated things further when the put the intercontinental shite up on that graphic of MW 'world' title holders. atsch An inter-bull**** belt is not a version of a world title, it's just a shiny trinket that gives the holder a top 10/15 ranking.
