Effective. But he will never appeal the general public. That being said, hopefully someone charismatic with a good crowd pleasing style gets some belts in this **** poor division.. technically, there's only two guys that can hold a candle to Wladimir... Povetkin and Haye.
I'm not a fan of Wlad's, but I like you as a poster so I will weigh in a bit on your thread. Wlad looked a bit uneasy the first half of the fight, getting cut so early in the fight doesnt help your mindset either. I really believe Wlad was trying to figure Tompson out, and when he did he started to take over and land some telling blows. I think all in all the fight wasnt the most pleasing to watch, but Wlad got the job done at the end, something he was unable to do the last time out against Iggy. I still believe there's a question mark on Wlads chin and mental pysche, I just hope fighters like Povetkin and Haye could answer those questions.
I´m a Wlad fan as well. It seemed Wlad was having a lot of trouble with Thompson and had some shaky moments. Wlad was also getting tired, but Thompson just got more tired, so it didn´t matter that much. Thompson was really difficult for the first half of the fight, but then somehow the fight went out of him and he seemed to be hanging in there only to survive. I would have expected Wlad to do better. Wonder if this is any indication of how he´ll do in future fights. At least Wlad did show he can handle a difficult situation and still pull through.
I never expected the fight to look good, so I guess I got what I expected until Wlad really opened fire... he should have done it earlier, but he certainly made Tony give up and give in. I think you're right about the appeal to the general public. I personally like him because he's a genuinely nice guy to go with his talent... I'm not much for mouthy fighters unless they can really back it up with their fists. Then again I'm an American... over in Germany it looks like the public adores him.
I´m a Wlad fan, but he looked HORRIBLE. He was so open to shots it was awfull! And Thompson was standing right in front of him moving slow as heck and Wlad didn´t throw any combos at him.. just a few 1-2´s and mostly all single punches. No wonder Vitali was getting frustrated in the corner.. he would have murder that man in a few rounds.
Klitschko fan here...I'm in the middle; I'm wasn't dissapointed with the fight (expected it to go the way it did), but at the same time won't be watching it too many times in the future. The fight was slow and lacking in action a lot of times, but Thompson is just as responsible as Wlad for that. Thompson is tall, awkward and always had his guard up. There was no way Klitschko was going to to look against him. It's impossible to look good against a guy who had defense in mind because he DIDN'T want to fight. Thompson's corner gave him **** the entire fight for being passive and Tony never did anything about it. It would've been nice if Wlad went after him with wreckless abandon, but he really wouldn't of connected much and would've just tired himself out and probably get knocked out again. Considering that, I think he went about things intelligently and at least got the knockout this time around. Two tenative, lackluster fights in a row for Wlad. Not what one would like to see from the 'recongized' heavyweight champion of the world, but he should be given the benefit of the doubt considering his last two opponents. If he fights like he did tonight against Povetkin, who always comes to fight and is easier to look good against, then I'd understand the displeasure towards Wlad.
he did his job but was kinda lack luster. even with tony being there to get hit. better then the sultan fight to a degree. you just get this feeling he could have done more
Coincidentally Povetkin ought to be fighting at the same weight that Haye just came from. Povetkin is vaaaaastly overrated.
