1. Bernard Hopkins performed WAY better than I expected! Props to a declining Hopkins, making Calzaghe look ordinary for most of the fight! 2. Calzaghe won but not in an impressive fashion, in all respect for both fighters, if they met in their primes I would favor Hopkins based on tonights performance! 3. Calzaghe did not benefit a lot by moving up to 175. His speed was diminished and he did not carry extra power at the higher weight. 4. Hopkins won the battle in ring Generalship. Calzaghe fought Hopkins fight. 5. Calzaghe matched Hopkins in the dirty tricks department!
Hopkins just knew how to fight Calzaghe, he has looked by far the best boxer against Calzaghe, I'd rate this even harder than the Eubank fight, a lot of people and Calzaghe fans must have been worried that this could have been called in Hopkins favour, Hopkins though just wasn't active enough. It hought Cortez did a good job, I see a lot of people say Cortez didnt split them up but split Hatton and Mayweather, but he did stop the clinching, he missed an obvious headbutt, but he did well to get them boxing after Hopkins feigned the 2nd low blow, fair play for Hopkins on the first one, he got rest and won the round pretty easily.
This really was a hard fight to score! I thought it would result in a draw and a rematch by the end of it!
