He's packing glass. Pure china in that mandible. Count on him hitting the canvas again if he faces a live body. Called it some time ago: https://www.boxingforum24.com/threads/tony-yoka-packing-glass.659238/
The sad part of the story is that since he's a very inactive fighter since he turned pro after the gold medal, he's prime might not only be already passed as it most likely never appeared in first place. The future? Who knows. In today's boxing one can appear in the undercard of a major event, score a win, put 1000 posts on Instagram and with the right promoter get a couple easy wins and got a mandatory position in some alphabet rank...he only needs the right promoter and he's well represented. After all he will always have that medal to use for some publicity or so. In my opinion, I don't give much attention to him anymore and the doors of retirement or Journeyman career are wide open for him but again...in today's boxing anything can happen.
Where I come from, we have a saying, popular with college-age kids: Tony Yoka, tappin' azzes like Lee Iacocca, drivin' them Mustangs down and out in Boca, got himself some clothes and furniture that's all bespoke-a. ...I don't know what any of that actually means, but it is a saying that we have here. Well, not *here* but where I come from. ...*from where I come.
He should fight Ivan Dychko for the prestigious 'Now Irrelevant Tall Fighter who Wasted their Amateur Cred." belt.
His handlers knew he wasn’t very good. Otherwise why did he hide away in France ducking everyone from the top 15 his entire career? Then when he steps up and faces Bakole who they probably underestimated due to the loss to Hunter he loses. The loss to Takam was humiliating for him. The financial backers will probably want to throw him to the lions now against some big names. At least they can make some ROI. But will he accept that fate for himself or will he retire? We could see some spectacular KO losses if he is up for it in the next 2 years. Or he may just retire or drift away into obscurity. One thing for sure is that they can’t continue to sell him as a world title contender learning his craft against opponents at home…those days are over…
I think the idea of him fighting in France was Yoka attempting to do what Joshua did in the UK. Build interest in boxing in France where it really isn't that popular and make it a big sport with him fighting in huge stadiums in France eventually. It was a terrible idea because UK has always had a strong boxing scene and history unlike France. Just another example of Yoka getting it so wrong.
If you think he stole Joe Joyces gold medal, you for sure had not seen the Hrgovic vs Yoka, pure robbery.
He has fallen to the level of a gatekeeper and will remain there, any better fighter will beat him without a problem...
