    Entry #1: ESPN's Dan Rafael

    Before --

Perhaps, Dan, Roy can continue to fight so that experts such as yourself can be forced to write what amount to cover-your-behind columns such as this? Or, perhaps, it's because Jones is making millions for this fight?

It's pretty simple: If Jones was as shot as Rafael is saying he is AFTER the fight, why did Dan pick him in the first place? Was Dan that fooled by the Trinidad fight? Did Roy just suddenly lose everything after fighting Trinidad? What happened?

Feel free to add your own examples of PWNED boxing writers trying to make amends for their Jones pick below.

    FINAL PREDICTION.....

After dissecting tons of fight footage and analyzing strengths and weaknesses, my decision is far from concrete but it's the one I'm going with. Bernard Hopkins recently showed us that life is very difficult for a fighter who can't pin down their target. With Calzaghe's work rate he'll hit Jones plenty, but with Jones' quick countering ability and his power to keep Calzaghe honest with deceptive power coming from all angles, I think the plot thickens quite a bit. In order to use his speed and connect with those flurries, Calzaghe will have to not only risk coming in, but subsequently leave himself open for some pounding in return. Calzaghe has the skills to win and possibly even stop Jones early, but my final answer on this one is that it takes a stage this grand to get an old puppy off the porch, and with all the bones up for grabs, I think Jones is clearly ready to walk the walk.

Tim Smith, New York Daily News:

    Before:

    After:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/m...for_joe_calzaghe_in_win.html?print=1&page=all

Smith's column is the classic example of the guy who got the pick wrong doing everything he can to try to highlight the bright spots of 'his' guy and minimize the other guy. However, this is a tricky proposition when the guy you picked lost 11 of 12 rounds.

"My suspicion is that Jones could school Calzaghe the same way Hopkins schooled Pavlik two weeks ago, only this time the fight could end in a knockout because of Jones' heavier hands. Calzaghe is fast, but not as fast as Jones, and he's a slapper with nothing to discourage Jones from being aggressive. Jones is by far the superior talent. The only question--and it's the same one Hopkins faced and answered successfully against Pavlik-- is when he does he start to show his age. My guess is, not
Saturday. Jones by TKO in 11."

On this site, a site where a vast majority of posters are Americans, over 65% of people picked Calzaghe.

A lot of the time these guy pick an outsider because if they get it right they look extremely good. Every man and his dog could predict a Calzaghe win.

Good pick, sitiyzal. Matthews whiffed on this pick, just as did Tim Smith, Dan Rafael and many other boxing writers, fighters and fans.
