Some of the trolls know how to play the game. They'll wait and target newer members who don't know any better, then lure them into their trap. As soon as those people catch on and grow tired of the game, the troll then proceeds to target the next generation of new users. Red lobster is a master at this tactic.
+1 I sometimes honestly think there should be a 'private section' on the forum on an invite basis, just to get away from the trolls and wannabee tough guys. However, sometimes a simple sentence can be as informative and as much of a contribution as a few paragraphs.
You have a point about the simple sentence. There is an Art to it being able to be profound in one sentence. It takes a lot of thinking, sacrifice, wit, and talent to be able to pull off one-liners that hit the mark on the topic. There are precious few that can do this and there is a reason for that. They add flavor and clarity to the conversation but rarely do they start the conversation. There are too many guys who think they are witty and fail over and over at trying to say the most with the least. It just spawns copy-cats who end up making everyone forget what the point of the topic was in the first place. Are far as trolling. I personally do not mind a little trolling here and there. I love good humor a much as the next fight fan but, this site should not a marked as a site that is overrun by that type of person. Everything in moderation.
JPL6 - I must agree the "Joe in 4" Merchants hardly give one a chance to analyse what they have factored into their equations...or indeed not factored in, and take the discussion forward, so i simply tend to think "Änd Cats Like Milk " and move on...
I still love it here dont get me wrong. But it has turned into a bit of a joke over the past 6 months or longer. One thing I have noticed is there are alot of newbies and alot of the veterans that you're used to seeing are gone....I really miss the Avatars and the cussing.
Agreed. While the primary focus of the forum is to discuss boxing, the lounge, the avatars and the alternate convos gave us a chance to mix things up, have a few laughs and even get to know each other on a more personal level. Sure there were people who abused these privelages and there were lot of conflicts between some posters that got ugly, but there were a lot of us who became friends too. And even some of the more heated arguments usually resulted in appologies later. At one point in the lounge we had threads that were devoted to " Posting pics of hot chicks" or ones that were about sharing "Jokes". There were also threads which talked about politics, business, and other stuff that you got a lot of perspective on from people close and abroad. When the management of the forum eliminated all of that, it took away a major piece of the culture here.
The CBZ blew up and dried up because of a similar outlook .. the editor got sick of trying to maintain a sort of status quo and as he was working it his way many walked because they felt it was heavy handed, unbalanced and boring ... ultimately only a few hardcore guys were left by the time the plug was pulled .. one of the reasons this forum has so much traffic is because the powers that be pretty much leave free reign unless totally outrageous behavior takes place .. on many fronts it results in a lot of low end posters but let's face it, it is free and beggars cannot be choosers. No one is forcing us to come here .. Net/net I get your point and appreciate it but it is wishful thinking ..
I am with my old buddy Southpaw when I say,I love it here too... There are some great ,truly knowledgeable people on here. We all have many varied opinions. But, some of the shares really have me look at what they are saying and looking at it in a whole other way. Yes we definitely got some kooks on here,but... For the most part, I totally enjoy all the banter, hot debate and conversation around who is who. Some of the guys that I have practically argued with, have become like good friends and make for great debate when discussing fights or fighters.
