Thanks for posting about the little guys. Boxing fans that don't follow these divisions are missing out. There are plenty of good fighters in those division and Philippines are not short of fighters there. I consider Nietes the best of the lot now that Villoria has been defeated. From Mexico, Estrada is only 22 but has already proven himself with the best out there. Then there is the guy on my avatar, Roman Gonzalez, very young and undefeated champion that has a tremendous knock out ratio. The best thing about these divisions is that more quality fights get made here than the higher weights.

Puerto Rican SFW prospect Jonathan "Bomba" Gonzalez fights tomorrow night. Really talented with lots of pop.

    Good shout Drew.

Hoping for a Japan-Phillipines rivalry. Maybe we can see Ioka-Cuello sometime this year.

It's been a tough history between us. :D

But then again, iron sharpens iron as they say. :good

Hey, the Thais and Indonesians have been on the party for as long as we remember!

If not for the WBC blatant political agenda with that Chinese fighter, Cuello might be the 4th but like you said he'll fight for the title later this year?

Anyway what do you think about the Pinoy prospects like the Penalosa brothers and guys like Genesis and Frolian?

Yamanaka-Tunacao was a decent scrap. Tunacao gave it a decent shot, didn't realize he was still in World title contention at this point to be frank..

That Chinese fighter (whatever his name is), is average at best.

Penalosa brothers are as raw as they come, but definitley diamonds in the rough. Experience and more fights will turn these guys into something.

Saludar is one of my bets for a next world champion, he's a bit reminiscent of Donaire but with a better right hand. Genesis is a good fighter, needs to step up though. He has a win over Jorge Pazos which is one of Orlando Cruz' signature win. So that should tell you the guy is world class.

    This.

there's a reason why they don't want a part of Cuello too soon.

    The party would end.

To be honest that shot came 10 years too late.

He could've been a champ again had he been given a shot about a year or two at 118 since his loss to Pong.

    Indeed. :good

Indonesia hopefully is building up their boxing infrastructure and the Thais always have to be considered in head to head matchups but I have to give the overall edge to the Phillipines in boxing.

Penalosa's definitely have good guys to help them develop their careers further that can be important in the development of young prospects in Gerry and Dodie Boy Sr. And Junior's sluggish early part of the fight against the Thai can hopefully be a good step in his career.

And as for Genesis, hope he won't flame out and disappoint like other Ala guys have...Looking at you Boom Boom
