I'm not sure if our friends from around the globe will have seen this, but this was shown on UK television this week. The show focussed on the build up to what was arguably the biggest fight of the modern era. For me, this showed the darker side of boxing, the side that is too often forgotten about, especially when we reminisce on the life of what many would consider the greatest sportsman of our generation, Muhammed Ali. Did you think Ali was portrayed unfairly in the comments he made towards Joe in the run up to the fight....or was he just simply trying to sell the fight? I thought it was an informative and interesting programme, it's just a pity that we don't see a bit more of this sort of thing getting airtime on TV here in the UK - people would rather watch washed up 'celebrities' dancing on ice, or the like.... I just wondered what the general consensus was? What do those who were about at the time (sadly I was not...!) remember of the fight?
I missed that documentary, I was ****in gutted, I really wanted to see it, if anyone knows if or when there is gonna be a repeat, please let me know. On the fight - it wasnt in my time but Ive seen it on tape plenty, I rank it as the best HWT fight ever aswell as the 3rd best fight in any division ever (only Morales/MAB I & Chacon/Limon IV were better) This fight cemented both guys legacy forever but neither were ever the same & both should have retired immediately after. Fantastic fight by 2 soldiers.
I've been absolutely desperate to see this as Joe Frazier is one of my few favorite heavies..... Any one know if they repeating this?
