I'll watch this again, how could I not.

The ending with Joe Frazier just breaks my ****ing heart, when one of his cornerman (I can't remember who the guy actually is) says he has an answerphone message and rings him up and it says something kinda tragic about Ali, then you just see him training in his empty gym.

It breaks my ****ing heart what happened to Frazier. I'm almost crying now.

it is sad, and it ****ing angers me that people like Pachecio can turn round say what he actually said about the racial taunts.

I'm almost finished Hauser's book on Ali - His life and times and they are making him out to be the kindest creature on earth - which may be true, but can you imagine having to take the sort of abuse Frazier took and witness your kids coming home knowing they were being bullied at school.

Pacheco is a complete and utter twat. I remember reading in Hands of Stone he tried stitching up Duran during a fight aswell.

That said I am not too taken with this documentary. A far too one sided piece of journalism.

It certainly wasnt Ali's fault that Joe is now penniless. Maybe he should aim some of his anger at the people who took advantage of him.

It also says volumes about a person who holds onto so much bitterness and anger for so long.
I know people who have suffered far greater physcial and mental abuses than Joe Frazier, yet they are far more forgiving and accepting people.

I have been trying.
I moved to Aberdeen from England about 6 years ago, and its something I really want to do.

The atmosphere at Pittodrie is pretty poor like.

 

This doc is based on that "Ghosts of Manila" book by Mark Kram, who was a scumbag. Incidently, it's his son who was behind the making of it. Far too biased and agenda-ridden to take seriously. This whole pop culture Ali backlash is very interesting though.

Its worth a watch but its also biased as ****. The 60s/70s were very strange times in the USA.

 

Hauser is pretty critical of Ali, I thought. Plenty of other critics have taken issue with what Ali did during that time.

But I'm not sure how the way Frazier's kids were treated was significantly different from how many other black children were treated during that period. Seems like slightly convenient reasoning.
