Anyone watched the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary Ali vs Holmes?

There's enough in that show to bring a tear to a glass eye.

Well worth watching if you've not yet seen it.

I really noticed a surge in Ali hate after the documentary was made.

yeah for sure...thats about the only time worth going.

 

very biased peice but its also the only time you see a bad word said about ali , biased but in the sort of way you can understand

To be fair I think half of those haters were brainwashed by this very documentary

 

nothing against the man as a boxer hes was sensetional but as a man he had some very nasty traits and did some terrible things

america was a wierd place to then especially as a famous black man , but he cant be completly blameless

 

No I agree Ali was well out of order with the Frazier situation, but I think it should be kept in proportion. On occasion he seems to get more hate over this, than other fighters who have done absolutely horrendus things to other people. Nobodies perfect, he made his mistakes, and I honestly think he regrets them now hes older and wiser. But to hold it against him after all this time is just not right either.

Okay, so he called his opponents a few names and slept with a few women, big deal. His biggest mistake was joining the NOI, but bearing in mind what was happening at the time you can see why some of the things they were saying would appeal to him. He did eventually realise what they were about though and left their fold. Ali's positives far outweigh his negatives.

 

Just watched this, thought both Ali and Frazier came out of it badly. Clear bias aside Frazier came out as a very bitter twisted man without an incredible amount of reason behind it. Politicians give each other similar amounts of abuse but dont have answer phone messages 30 years later about it and are happy at other later misfortunes. That said if my children were coming home beaten and abused because of the actions of another man to make money/fame i think my actions would be alot worse.

 

It is very biased but I think it was made to counterweigh the Saint Ali image created by other sections of the media. Ali was a bully and very manipulative with a cruel streak. When Frazier stands up to him in the studio after Ali calls him 'Ignorant' - look how he waits for his cronies to distract him before he grabs him when he can't see. Real school yard bully stuff. The things he said were not said 'in the heat of the moment', but were calculated and measured slurs intended to demonize an otherwise decent individual, take away his pride as a man and turn his own people against him.
It would be better for Frazier to forgive, but you can't take it for granted. Then again I've just watched it so maybe I'm abit over emotional.

Frazier's head movement is incredible. Never fails to amaze me.
