Through Andre Ward's inactivity alone, surely....

Pacquiao is currently P4P no. 2

So, my question is when was the last time the two best P4P fighters fought each other???

I'm not talking two best in the division.... best in the game....

people want to compare it to Lewis vs. Tyson, or Calzaghe vs. Jones....

but none of those guys were considered no. 1 p4p when those fights happened, let alone the perceived opponent the no. 2 p4p....

    Whitaker-Chavez. Number 1 and number 2 p4p.

    Jones-Toney Number 1 p4p vs top 5 p4p

    Trinidad-DLH Number 1 p4p vs top 5 p4p

Andre Ward shouldn't be on any p4p list period. The man needs to fight again. And I'm a Ward fan, but this whole situation has been ridiculous.

I wouldn't doubt it if he gets KO'd coming back. That much inactivity is very foolish. Boxing is an unforgiving sport.

Ward was green at that time. I'm talking about having almost no world class experience. His only notable achievement before Kessler was a UD win against a past it Miranda and winning a gold medal at the 04 Olympics. It was supposed to be a cake walk for Kessler who after the fight, would go on and win the best fight of his career in beating Froch.

This green Ward systematically broke Kessler down, took his belt, and sent him and his fans crying back to Europe in his first world title fight.

    You may be right.

As bad as he looked vs Rodriguez, no thanks to Rodirguez who tried to turn it into a WWF fight.....

I think someone like Tony Dirrel would beat him ATM.:think

He beat unwell, rusty, past best, double vision suffering Kessler at home back in 09 and you think that should be P4P #2 material in 15. Leave you with it, but just imagine the hype if Ward had of beaten undefeated prime Kessler :yikes

A green untested Ward beat the number 1 SMW in the world in his first world title fight. After Ward beat Kessler down, Kessler went on to win the best fight of his career in Froch.

You cannot dispute this, these are just facts.

It's hard to say due to how inactive he's been. I just don't think boxers should do that, especially not at that stage of Ward's career. I know he got injured, but the whole thing with Goossen was ridiculous.

An older veteran boxer who needs to rest his body due to all the rounds he's fought over a career is a different scenario. Taking a little time off can do them a lot of good.

No I dont neccessarily disagree, I just think it shows that the division is not overly strong and Bute (although at that point I would have had Kessler above on overall) had some claim at that time due to Kessler not being very active. Kessler had been beaten when prime by the old end of career, end of SMW career previous champ when old and past best with bad hands. If beating that faded version of Kessler is what makes todays P4P #2, I dont find it to be overly strong, but thats just an opinion and not to get upset over. Froch lost to that version

I'm not sure why you're bringing Calzaghe into the equation. Calzaghe is the best Super Middleweight of all time, I'm not disputing that.

You're also putting words in my mouth. Not once did I argue for or against Ward being number 2 p4p before he got dropped from the rankings due to inactivity.

It just rubs me the wrong way when people downplay Wards win over Kessler for no reason other than nationalistic bias. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but that still doesn't change the fact that a green fighter systematically beat the number 1 fighter in his division in his first world title fight.

Not sure where you get nationalistic bias from?
