How do y'all throw the overhand right? Like a looping cross?

    That depends.

Do you have a sturdy wall?

Steelshoulders, I find the over hand right usually works best against a taller person.

It takes a bit of a crouch to get the power into this sort of punch.
Think of the way Mike Tyson crouched before launching a looping right or left hook.

If you are a shorter, stockier fighter with tree trunk calves and leg muscles..
Overhand rights and left hooks can be something you can make your own. Especially when dealing with taller boxers with reach.

Mind you.. I wouldn't say it works against every tall boxer though.

The less experience guys will eat it up like crazy unless they catch on to it early in the rounds.

With more experienced taller guys, I find they expect over hand rights and prepare for it accordingly with good distance control, jabs and defense.

Last time I connected with over hand rights was like at least half a year ago with a less experienced taller guy with good punch reach. Nothing else worked so I crouched a bit, and threw overhand rights and left hooks which stunned and slowed his pace down.

^ Other than that I don't think I have thrown any successful overhand rights while sparring since. Guess it is a punch which relies more on opportunities and openings + the type of fighter you are dealing with.

Thanks Punjabi. I'm really a 'basement boxer' looking to stay in shape and be able to defend myself.
I should have explained myself better. Maidana's overhand right somewhat arcs up before descending and hitting his target. Bradley's for example seems like a right cross which is just aimed higher. I tried throwing it the way the expert boxing video showed to, but it just felt like I was sitting on my punch more if that makes sense. Any tips?

After the overhand right roll your left shoulder forward and step out🐍

my coach use to knock guys out with this punch he calls "the anchor punch"
only thrown with the dominant hand, you bring your shoulder forward and bring your hand back, up and then down as fast as you can. risky **** I know and I tried it against his son and my gymmate who has like 50 fights and he cracked me but I have seen the old tapes of him knocking a dude out with it XD
