I was wondering do you guys throw the uppercut on the heavybag? I rarely do and the last time I did, I felt an an awkward pinch in the bone of my hand.

Use mexican handwraps, quality training gloves (Reyes, Grant), don't punch too hard, don't overtrain, check your air.
    Good luck

That used to happen to me all the time until I perfected my technique and also learned to hit the bag more squarely in the middle. Hitting the heavybag just slightly off to either side can jolt your wrists. It also helps that I'm older so my bones and muscles are more dense so I can absorb the impact better.

I now throw the uppercut just about as often and as hard as any other punch on the heavybag with a slight bend in the knees to put full leverage underneath the shot.

marciano used to have a horizontal bag for the uppercut but i've never come across one.
i used to hurt my thumb if i didn't land properly, but i liked throwing short uppercuts.
